Wk5 run 3 on mon/tues! Doubts about doing/injury. Anyone else doing then?

I have my 20min run/jog next week. (Wk5 run3) planning mon or tues. What happens if I can't do it, keep repeating the 8min run for a bit? Wish there were some more guidance on this!

A little unsure about whether I can do it in general but also have a bit of a dodgy knee and ankle which I was feeling towards end of one of the 8min sections so a bit cautious of that, also sometimes get a bit of pain in upper back when run, does anyone else get that? I think I tense up... could also be to do with working sitting down a lot and straining there.

Also would be nice if anyone else doing this run next kept in touch :) Thanks!

Hey! I've just completed that run and like you I also felt really apprehensive about it. I have had knee problems in the past so was worried about running for 20 minutes but the training so far seems to have strengthened them up. Honestly just give it a try, if you've managed all the other runs you are physically ready it's really a mental challenge. I got into a rhythm after about 8 minutes and it was fine after that. Last 5 were tiring but I wasn't giving up at that point!

Thanks! I'm walking the 775km camino in Spain later this year so trying to prepare for that but also wary of getting injury so just need to know in myself when to keep going as when to stop :) well done for doing it!

You will complete this run, if not at the first attempt, then you just repeat it. Don't go backwards.

You have already run for sixteen minutes with a short walking interval, so the step up is physically quite small but mentally huge. Don't anticipate failure, be positive. You just have to believe and do the special W5R3 exercises, which you need to do every day between now and your run. This consists of standing in front of a mirror for ten minutes and contorting the face in the most extreme way possible. This will prepare your face for the fixed grin that you will be wearing for a week after completion.

You can do this.

Great idea about the practising, as the result is so true!!! 😃 I did this on Friday and still grin when I think about it!!

Go for it Abergrad, let us know how those tips worked out for you!!

I thought the same as you but in the end the 20 min run is easier than the short runs honest 🙂

I have a vlog on YouTube here is my week 5 episode 😊

Thanks everyone, I did it yesterday evening! :) it was raining in the morning so I avoided that. I ran/well jogged for the whole 20mins. My left ankle twinged a little, this is the one I slightly twisted previously and then my right hip hurt a bit but that was prob cause I was too conscious of my ankle! I'm just paranoid about getting an injury as sore knee made me stop the programme twice before a few years ago. Plus my friend told me at the weekend that she had to stop running due to a sore hip so that's why it's on my mind. But today I feel stiff but not too sore! Thanks all 🙏

Well done. Your concern is very sensible and might be calmed or put in perspective by consultation with a sports physio.

Also, you should be shouting this achievement in a new post, not just tacking onto the end of your old post. Nobody will think you are boastful........we understand.

Keep running, keep smiling.
