Hi there, for those who know me the title is very apt for me at the moment, but I know I'm not alone with the heat and those on the IC many of us can empathise with the title and for those running regularly and training for events it fits for you too, may we all be back running together soon.

Welcome to Week 2 Hope youre all doing okay.:-)

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks.

You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a graduate . The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going

.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will be added for the duration of the Quest.

Good Luck everybody !

Well a bit of a mixed bag for me this week, with my physio and swimming and hiking I've been doing a bit of crashing and burning. I really feel like running would help. I know that sounds strange but with running over the years I have learnt to push myself in the right way, easing off when my body was giving me the signs. I am trying to get the same cardio workouts with other stuff and it is just not the same. I have my active core class today so I am going to ask them if I can run again. Keep your fingers crossed for me 🤞🤞🤞🤞

All crossed

A good start for me. I didn't manage a longer run as it was too hot and the evening before my planned long run we did a long walk with our walking group, so I just did about 35 minutes.

But I did crack that 35 minutes at Pacer Saturday parkrun (34.42) and I did the tail run at Junior parkrun. See separate posts for the run reports.

So it is on with Polyrunner 162 today.

Hi I would like to join the Quest please. My aim is to get comfortable at running 5k without having to stop. I will be doing 5k runs 3 times a week. Monday, Wednesday and a Saturday morning Parkrun. By September I would like to be able to record a sub 30 minute Parkrun. My current PB is 32:23 which I got on Saturday, but it was not a comfortable run, I made some mistakes.

Fingers crossed for you.

Can I join this quest please?

My goals are to run 2 or 3 times a week and to complete a park run (and earn a virtual medal) by the end of July. Fingers crossed I actually complete the quest this time!!!! 🏃‍♀️

Not too bad a week. Managed 2 exercise classes and 2 30min runs. Didn't make it for the 3rd run yesterday but made up for it today. Walked 14km around Durham at the Open University day!

14km walk that's a good one, it's amazing how it fits in when you have something to do 😀.well done on your runs and exercise classes.

I'm in please RFC.

This is an aptly titled challenge for me, I'm struggling a bit at the moment, I'm still feeling quite naff, following being prescribed (erroneously I believe) pills for high blood pressure. They mad me feel truly awful, really bad, and I stopped taking them after a few weeks. The side effects are still lingering... I really haven't felt like running, and a short difficult walk in extremely hot and humid temperatures last week in Spain have done nothing to increase my belief in my abilities. Funny how quickly we start to doubt...it's very very hot here in France at the moment, I think the pills have reduced my ability to deal with it too. My heel is still hurting a bit as well.

It's forecast to be a bit cooler for a few days from tomorrow (Tuesday - Sunday) with light rain too. If that doesn't get me out the door, I just don't know what will....

So my goal is just to get out there again.

Welcome onboard , I have added your name. Poor you it sounds like it's going from one thing to another for you right now. I really hope it all clicks into place soon and you pick up. I know what you mean about losing faith In your ability, saying that I really do believe that muscles retain memories, I got In The pool after nearly four months away and it wasn't too bad at all, just took it easy and I'm already half way built up my distance without too much pressure, so I am Sure it will all come back when your body is ready.

Thank you RFC, I was fine until I saw that idiot doctor. All I wanted was a certificate for my race, I feel very angry with him, I think he's ruined my health. I know he didn't do it on purpose, or at I hope he didn't, but nevertheless I've not felt right since the beginning of April. Normally I have good health and loads of energy....

I'm trying to put it behind me and move on.It's cooler here today and I'm going out for a run - wish me luck!

Have your BP medication reviewed. The first ones I was prescribed (in my 30's) were beta blockers, which are not now prescribed as the first choice and not for anyone under 65 (I think). So I was ok walking on the flat but could hardly get up even small slopes. It turned out that my pulse was quite slow, changed to the lowest possible dose of my current medication and no problems ever since (about 20-25 years I would guess).

The fact of the matter is I only ever get high blood pressure readings when I see that particular doctor. Even though I told him this, he still insisted that I take the pills. I wish I'd gone with my own gut feeling...I got such terrible side effects a friend lent me their own home BP meter, my blood pressure had fallen to dangerous levels. I stopped taking the pills, and I will never see that doctor again. I'm in France, the doctors here are bullys. Yes, they were beta blockers, I had chest pains and breathing difficulties, room spinning and nausea among other stuff. 5 weeks off the drugs and I feel almost back to normal. I know I shouldn't self-diagnose/treat, but I have no faith in that particular doc. I'll see an English doc when I get home.

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSue in reply toCurlygurly2

That is understandable. I hope you get a better response in England.

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate in reply toRunaroundSue

And, I didn't mention, we have to pay to see the doc here, so far it's cost me £50 to be made ill...

10 years ago he gave me the same pills, the doc in UK couldn't understand why and told me to stop taking them. He wasn't happy about that...I'm scared of this man, White coat syndrome or something they call it, doctors in UK recognise that your BP may be raised by being in the docs surgery......honestly RASue, I thought I was going to snuff it....

Still, I'm feeling better now, and had a good run this morning <3

Yes you are quite right about white coat syndrome. Glad you are feeling better.

Can I join the quest please?

My quest is a two-parter:

I have a beautiful new running route through fields, tracks and woods which is 5k (I've tracked it with my Garmin). I've done it twice now but it has 3 long, steepish hills and it's just been too hot for me to run it all. Also, I've not been doing that many hills lately so I'm out of practice! Part 1 of my quest would be to get round the whole route without having to walk the hills.

Part 2 is a bit of a cop-out but if I put it here it will keep me on track: a couple of weeks ago I joined a Pilates-based strength/toning/stretch-type class - I've been 3 times now, tonight will be the 4th. So part-two of my quest will just be to make sure I go every week until the quest ends.

Is that OK?

Welcome onboard, I have added your name. That's is fine, just what the quest is about. I went to my first Pilates class today, I will be added the weekly class into what I want to achieve too 😀.

Another step closer to my Quest. Ran a Parkrun this morning. I completed it without stopping or walking which was great and got a new PB, 32:07 for my time today from Parkrun which is another step closer to my sub 30 minute Quest. Shaved another 15 seconds off my PB. It's slow but going in the right direction.
