The virtual run is going well. This quest we will be going past Harrogate and York and there has been some discussion about Betty's, which one will be the best to go to. I say lets all have our cake and eat it in both. We are doing the hard work and it's the time of year to treat ourselves. A cup of tea and cake dosent do any harm once in a while.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

A better week for me this week. 2 7km runs and a 5km. I really like the Asics training plan, it is very versatile. I have moved things round a bit this week as I think I might only get one run in next week. I am having trouble doing the comfortable runs though. Because I run walk 2:1 I thought if I changed the ratio to 1:1 that would make my run slower. It seemed like logic to me. But all that happened was I got a faster run, not by much. 2:1 was 7km in 1.04.44. 1:1 was 7km 1.04.20??????????? I don't really know how to slow Down, maybe do more running as the more I run the slower I am, but that seems to take a lot more out of me so it wouldn't be a comfortable run. Anyway I babble. Happy running everyone.
I have't hit the required pace for the Asics plan yet either RFC, but am enjoying putting in more walks than I have allowed myself so far so definitely not complaining.
Managed my 3 runs last week, after a week long layoff due to feeling iffy.
Monday I hestitated a bit then decided to give Stamina a go. This turned into my 2nd fastest 5k run - Stamina took me to just beyond 4k, so I decided to keep going until I got to 5k, though I did drop the pace a bit. Was quite chuffed with that.
After Monday's exhertion I decided to just go for a wee run on Thursday, with a 30 minute podcast for company. No speed or distance records were set, but I enjoyed myself, which is the point, isn't it.
Saturday afternoon I didn't want to aim for anything spectacular, but I did want to try a new route that gets to the bottom of a hill (gasp) that I want to work on, so out I went. 15 minutes and 1.75k took me to the foot of said hill, so I decided just to gently start heading up the way until I got to the 2k mark which I did before turning round and heading home. So 4k, involving a tiny uphill bit. Hubby currently runs this route going uphill for 2k then back down again - so thats the ultimate goal, but I think it will take a while ! The hill is actually an access route into the Vercors mountain range in SE France, so plenty of scope for running uphill if I want to !
Plan for this week is today, Wednesday and Saturday - getting some preemptive km in before the holiday season ! (Spending 2 weeks in Tunisia with my daughter, don't know if running is really "on" there, though we are planning a few days at a tourist resort much used by westerners, so I'm guessing it will be OK there.)
Now the winter weather seems to have settled there is no more snow melting and ici roads, I am back to running and my winter target is an aggregate of 10k a week!
Progressing on the 1st week of the Asics plan. Bit of a shock, it starts with 1 nice 4.9k joglette then, after I did a double-check just to make sure I hadn't gone all Mr Magoo, 2 x 8k easy (ha ha ha ha) jogs at a slow pace. Well the 4.9k was ok, but found it hard to be as slow as it thought I should be (my normal 'brisk walk' speed) so popped in a couple of walk breaks. Lovely.
The 2nd 8k was supposed to be yesterday but I came over all feeble and did it today instead and, again, popped in lots of wee walks (literally - this was a dog ralk too) because the pace was slow. However, I can feel the extra effort in my quads and calves so summat is happening!
It wants intervals next and am assuming not the sort with Kiaora and a Mivvy.
RFC, how did you guess I have Betty's Fat Rascals on my Christmas Wishlist?!
I thought I was going to be way off my 150 minutes this week as Christmas and visitor preparations had to take precedence, but I had one enjoyable run. Could so easily have persuaded myself I was too tired and didn't have time after running errands. In the end, I easily achieved my minutes because I was out for a couple of hours dog walking with friends so that was 3 boxes ticked all at once. Not all that brisk but it did involve a steep hill. Got a couple of meditation/relaxation sessions in (really glad I set this as a goal - I needed them but bet I wouldn't have made them a priority) but not a full online yoga class. All in all, I am satisfied.
I ran about 25 kms last week, including a 10 k race. My training plan is nearly done, with just two recovery runs left to do this week
Not letting the grass grow under my feet i have entered another 10 k race in March and will be getting a new asics plan to start training again, three times a week.
I like to have a plan and an event to work towards
5k on Tues 28:04 a new PB (not counting Poppy Run as my Runmeter didn't measure that at 5k). 10k yesterday 1:00:25 - would have been under that hour if I hadn't stopped to talk to a lost dog
Aiming for 2 or 3 again this week - but we'll see.
Had a good week on the whole as met both my goals. Managed 2 runs - didn't do park run as was very icy but did short run on Thursday in horizontal sleet and wind . Food wise not too bad considering time of year so quite happy with that. Our Jogscotland leader has kindly suggested those of us training for Edinburgh HM in May can join him on his own training run on Mondays. So just back from 4 mile run - found pace faster than used to and last bit was all uphill ! It was really hard but felt absolutely fantastic when it was all over . Still feeling the buzz!!
Happy running everyone and take care if icy your way.
I did a parkrun and a Santa Dash so a total of (10km) and yesterday did a 2km. I had planned a run this morning before work but I am in agony with a painful right ankle. In the few days before parkrun I did 3km and 4km. So for week I have got 19km for you.
Well, still plodding along with the RunStreak. I've done over 19 miles so far - but it is getting rather boring. I'm trying to mix it up by going faster, doing dashes (I can't call them sprints) between lamp posts etc. but I'll be glad to get back to my ordinary longer runs.
My preference would be for the York Bettys, but I think we should do a proper comparison and analysis of the two of them. I'm afraid I can't really count Little Bettys in the Shambles in York because it doesn't really have the same atmosphere for me, so let's just book two nice big tables in Harrogate and York
Happy running everyone, and if you're not running at the moment, get well soon x
Managed to have a few too many rest days after the virtual 10k so didn't run again until Friday when I did a wee half hour. Sunday did a 7k using a ratio of 3 mins run and 1 minute walk...slower than when I did 2 minutes run 1 minute walk!! I have pretty much decided I will run all my 5 or 6 k runs 'straight' and anything longer using run walk run. Much easier on my breathing and body and just as fast, which is very weird but seems to be the way if it for many of us.
Only had one yoga class this last week as the other was cancelled. I have also decided, at last, to shift some of the excess weight I am carrying and my plan for the remaining part if this quest is to eat smaller portions. At the end of this quest I will reassess my strategy
Feeling a bit rubbish today, sore throat and glands but hope to shift that soon. Have a great week everyone!
Finally managed a 3- run week for the first time in I don't know how long.Did the Stamina podcast twice which ended up with me covering 4.4K and 5.5K and Speed plus a bit added on at the end and I ran 3.8K. So started off fairly gently as didn't want to aggravate any of the old problems ....pleased to report no achey bits yet
Hope all you poorly ones out there feel better soon...happy running everyone x
Just started week 2 of My Asics plan, feeling quite excited at having a structured plan to follow again, although I'm no following it exactly to the letter...found the Target pace button on Runkeeper, made an enormous difference to my speed, naughty Curly as I'm supposed to be running slowly for the plan! Carpe Diem so to speak!
I'm loving how running can fit in with my life, have to take my car to be serviced tomorrow, I intend to run home, about 4KM, then run back the next day to collect it.
