Hi there, for those who know me the title is very apt for me at the moment, but I know I'm not alone with the heat and those on the IC many of us can empathise with the title and for those running regularly and training for events it fits for you too, may we all be back running together soon.
Welcome to Week 3 Hope youre all doing okay.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks.
You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
We ask that you are a graduate . The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going
.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will be added for the duration of the Quest.
Good Luck everybody !

I only did one of my two runs last week but I'm not beating myself up I had good reason. I did my swim, upped the distance and I managed all my core and Stregnth work, then had a mega busy day at the bowls club on Friday, it was a corporate day, these are the things that keep it going so it is a 13 hour day with not many breaks, running around with trays of heavy booze for ring side service, then feeding them all, it has taken me two days to get over that level of exertion, according to my vivo smart HR (new toy) it was over 18,000 steps but a 3000 kcal day. I feel ready for a run today.
The first one was a nice solid 18 minutes (was only going to run 15, but forgot to look at my watch and then decided I might as well run to the end of the road!) and you may well have seen what happened to me on my second run of the week after less than 1km!! Both arm and knee are healing slowly, but I wouldn't recommend trying to body slide on a pavement again!!
Anyway - went out for a walk yesterday, but wore my running gear so I could do a few test runs along the way. Planned a nice 5k route (just to see how long it takes without running, in preparation for my first parkrun on Saturday!) - and managed to run some bits, each one slightly longer than the previous, and all on different surfaces to see how my knee held up. It was better on grass than on concrete, but seemed ok. So fingers crossed I can get a couple of shorter runs in this week before Saturday!
I can tell I am not running quite often enough though, I'm breathing more heavily.
Struggled with my goals this week as I am in the Dordogne with heat, hills and probably too much food and vin. Have enjoyed some runs but others have been tough 😳
Having a great time though😉 and plenty of time for getting back into the swing of things when I get home 🏃♀️
I had a pretty good week. I ran 5k last Tuesday. On Thursday I met up with a different group from the Athletics club, 8 very welcoming ladies. We ran 5k and did some sprint training up a hill for a while. It was very enjoyable as the group ran at my own pace and I found it effortless, well other than running in torrential rain. On Saturday morning I did a Parkrun and got closer to my goal of a sub 30 minute 5k. My PB was 32:07, on Saturday I ran across the line in 31:04. It will take another few weeks to shave off that minute and 4 seconds. I'll work on the 4 seconds first😀. Yesterday we were away with family, taking the opportunity of having babysitting on tap my wife and I ran/walked our way around a lovely lake in the Wicklow mountains before returning home to my sisters house. We didn't realise how far the route was, in the end we did just over 8k.
So unfortunately I haven't ran for a week as I came down with a stomach bug! Last thursday at work I became unwell so spent all of Friday in bed 🛌and in close proximity to the loo! then Saturday and Sunday was spent being washed out and preparing to go back to work yesterday. My last run was on 18th July so tomorrow I shall commence again!!🤒☹️
Hi rfc, I thought I had asked to join this last week but looking back I didn't 😢 Is it too late to join in now? I can't believe I've nearly missed a Quest!
My goal would be to try and stick to my myAsics plan and not throw my phone under the nearest bus! It will only take me up to 10.5 k but it expects one 10.5k run and two 7k runs per week, which is a lot for me.
I felt a niggle in my ankle last week, on a walk so thought it best not to run on it. I thought maybe I had pulled it when I ran over a pothole in the woods on Wednesday. After no running for a few days and it feeling ok again, I was dismayed to have the same feeling again yesterday just walking....
Then realised what the problem is💡...
The couch is fighting back.. I realised that for the past few evenings I have been sitting to the side with bent knees and my feet on the couch..something I stopped doing because it was bad for my back. Its whats been stretching my ankle...doh😐..
So...not injured...just tired and bad posture..so will be back out for a run tomorrow👍
It is so easy to forget the rest of our lives when we access injuries, I once had a friend who was having trouble with her runs and completely forgot to factor in new working shoes which were flatter than she was used to and they were pulling her calves. Glad you got to the bottom of it.
A good week for me.Two lovely runs from our campsite in Rosemarkie to Chanonry Point, luckily? we were not interrupted by dolphins although we spent an hour or so watching them on another occasion.
Then we moved onto Thurso for one night (no run) before the ferry to Orkney. We had a nice run from the campsite along a coastal path at Stromness. We saw a seal and a stoat ran along the path in front of me.
Running with Polyrunner 164 but not worrying about time or distance although the runs have turned out to be about 40 minutes/5km. Geoff finished off week 8 and has started week 9 of C25K
Our next run should be on Monday from Kirkwall Youth Hostel with the Scapa Loop Group
