Starting again??

So I ve not run for 6 monthes apart from an odd one. I keep letting to remember how good it felt (after the red puffing but) and get to it. I don't know whether to start at week one again or a few weeks in. What have other done if any of you have been silly enough to let it slide that long?

I have had a year off with only the occasional run, due to health issues and started again a few weeks ago.

I have been doing the programme again from scratch, to film it, but also going for the occasional fun run. Obviously a lot slower and puff a bit more but still able to run 5k without real problem (apart from muscle stiffness the next day). You dont forget how to do it.

redoing the programme is good fun though.

I let it slide last year unfortunately and had about the same time off as you and I started the program again this year from the beginning.

It's actual quite good doing the program again, especially as this time I've done the program outside

Good Luck and welcome back 👍😁

Understanding why it slid might be an important component. I am wondering if you might be being a little hard on yourself (since clearly you *have* been going for runs, it is more that you don't feel you have the *habit* any more)

I ve done 2 since Xmas. I had to stop as I have scleraderma which affects the circulation in my hands and feet leaving me with open ulcers on my toes which I can't run with. I ve put the weight back on so feel I m back to the beginning with all the shame that goes with it!

Shame is not a compulsory companion of putting weight on. I'm not saying that putting weight on that you don't need when you worked hard to lose it is a reason for celebration either... but I doubt very much that feeling shame will do anything other than hold you back. Nor will talking about yourself as 'silly' You wouldn't talk so unkindly to someone else in your situation, so don't do it to yourself. You don't deserve it

It sounds as though your plan needs to accommodate the realities of your health - is it worse in Winter? Do you need to have some form of exercise you can switch into when your feet don't allow running so that you maintain the habit of doing *something*?

I can see merits in just doing the C25K programme again, to remind yourself of all you have achieved. It's simple, straightforward and safe and you know you can do it... see how it makes you feel emotionally, if it is happy nostalgia, carry on... but if it only feeds into self-blame, then dump it sharpish.
