Was dreading going up from 5m to 8m on this run. For some reason I was a bit out of sorts in R1 (too much to drink the night before?), and found myself getting out of breath at the end of each 5m segment (though I didn't stop running. Then today, the hottest of the year so far I wondered how I'd survive. I waited till 9pm so the temperature dropped to a "mere" 28C, and found it actually quite enjoyable. Half way through the 5m walk in the middle I felt ready to start running again.
Onwards and upwards to a 20m segment next run. Yikes!

When I saw the 5m. and 8m... I thought you meant miles. Phew....what a relief when I saw you meant minutes!!! ( Well I only just woke this morning after a sleepless night!)
It is very very warm and last night, too. Juts follow and trust the programme and above all keep it slow and very steady...make sure you are well hydrated too>)
Sometimes you can surprise yourself can't you? I think that dread you felt meant that you didn't take this run lightly, and you performed all the better for it as you got your mind in the right place.
So much more of this is psychological than we realise. Especially when it comes to running to time. I had to learn to ignore the time updates. I remember flying along feeling great on my first long run, when Michael Johnson announced I had 5 minutes left - suddenly, balance, coordination, breathing went to pot and my legs felt like lead - it was the longest 5 minutes.
