Just under two weeks ago I completed the c25k course. Last week I ran my first 5k and this week I have plucked up the courage to join a local running group (beginners welcome) and have also enrolled on the local park run..... eeeek!!!
I put down nhs C25k as my club for the park run of course! (and proud to do so!

Unfortunately our local club doesn't really encourage beginners (nice and welcoming!) setting minimum standards would you believe. And the local council turned down the idea of having a park run as they didn't want people using the grass!!
That is such a shame! It's not that I'm looking for a challenge so much, more that it is safer to run in a group than solo (I had a delinquent lob the remains of his McDonalds milkshake in my direction the other week!!! :/ ) plus having the structure will be good too.
Good for you. Once I can go above a crippled snails pace and conquer hills I'll think about park run. If they did it locally in an anti clockwise route it's down hill. That I can handle haha.
I saw a post on the forum asking where is the most difficult park run Rickne ... but wherever it is its not here as I live on the Cheshire plain so nice and flat! I've actually been running my park run as my training route ... and guess where the beginners run...??!! (so there won't be any horrible surprises )
perfect . I did a shortened version of ours in an antio clockwise route which was just over 4k in 30 mins . and that hurt like hell but the more you do it hey .
Let us know how you get on at the running club.... I would be one of the slowest runners if I joined my local club so not brave enough (and it would be quite a way to drive).
Hellooo! There are lots of new names and lots of new graduates in the 11 days since I last posted. Well done to those starting and those finishing or nearly finishing the programme! Well, running post graduation? I had some early good runs and made my way up to 5k at a decent speed fairly quickly .... but then seemed to take a step back and have had to finish a couple of runs at around 4k? Difficult to keep disciplined and I'm afraid I bottled my meetup with the local club as the run got relisted as a 5-6k! However I got a lovely response from the organiser plus another member on their facebook page, who also said she had only just got to 5k and not to worry at all, so I will definitely be joining them soon. I did my first park run today. Another mixed affair! The weather was throwing it down this morning (or "persisting" it down as my partner says) and when I got there it was mainly elite runners and diehards. Therefore I'm not sure if it was as motivational as it could have been? I forgot to warm up for starters and tried to run too fast at the beginning so got out of breath and then followed the example of some and ended up walking bits..... however I came about 20th from last going a lot slower than I've been managing normally and I finished, which is the main thing. Next time I'll remember the old mantra .... "slow and steady" x
