W6R2 - stick to what works

abigettinghealthy profile image

Yesterday morning I didn't end up running for various reasons so thought I'd try running after work instead - I'm not going to be able to go at the weekend so wanted to still get 3 runs in this week.

I think I can safely say that evening runs are NOT for me. It was too hot, my legs felt tired before I even started, my stomach was aching throughout, I had a stitch immediately...

I almost manages the first 10 minute run, albeit with a couple of pauses, and then didn't even attempt to finish the second one and stopped after about 6 minutes, then limped home licking my proverbial wounds.

I'll try it again tomorrow but just a bit demoralising to fail at it so completely when I'd been making good progress until now :(

Oh abigettinghealthy i feel your pain, I did w6r1 yesterday and knee hurt throughout and still sore now. I think you did the right thing to stop and fight another day. Don't beat yourself up, I think the runs are tougher now and our bodies are still catching up. I'm going to leave at least 2 days until I have no twinge. It is disappointing, but as the more experienced runners keep saying you have to think long term and if you want to do this post c25k I guess injuries and tiredness will happen. Good luck for your next attempt whenever you decide to do it ✌🏻️👍🏻

Well, at least you've learned you are definitely a morning runner! Don't worry - it will be fine next time. There's no rush to get through the programme.

Don't feel bad, we all have bad runs when it seems the world is out to get us. It's not a failure, we don't use the 'f' word here. Its part of the journey and such a small part of what you have achieved so far that you can just look at it for the annoying little blip that it was and move on. Good luck with your run tomorrow 👍

Try to re-progam your head, it's not that you HAVE to do the run tonight, it's that you WANT to do the run tonight, afterall the run will still be available next week, so this is a choice. Having a positive mental attitude really does make a huge difference.

I've found W6R2 really difficult and today was the third attempt. I managed the first 10 minutes but had to have nearly 5 minutes walk before I felt able to tackle the second 10 minute stint but I did do it. I shall run it again before I try R3 - 25 minutes nonstop is going to be really tough!!
