You're never too old! There are plenty of member on here who had at least 10-15 years on you when they started running Just take it gently, repeat weeks if you need to, post here for support, encouragement, and celebration!
Too late?? At 55??? Absolutely not. You found us on this forum, and we are here to encourage, cajole, support, motivate and 'kick-you-up-the-backside' as you recreate yourself. Only you can step outside the front door as you start the C25K journey, but once you've started you'll quickly catch the running bug and meet your objectives.
At 55 (like me) you probably have 20, 30 or 40 years ahead of you. You could see it as too late or as just the right time. Given you asked the question you probably know that you are ready to give this a go
Running and the sense of achievement that comes with putting one foot in front of the other, is cool.
Start real slow...and let us know how you are doing
What Rignold said! Many of us are/were in the same position. Getting started is the hard part. You'll benefit from having taken that first step and being proactive.
It's not easy, but it is very possible. The programme works (so far, I'm only in week 4). Take it slowly is the best advice.
I am nearly 57 and have just started and on my second week. Not going to say it is easy because it blooming isnt but if I can do it you can!! I am now looking forward to my early morning runs which was unthinkable a few weeks ago when I first had the idea in my head! I repeated Week 1 Day 1 as I found it hard and thought it was silly to move on but have stopped panicking now and moved onto Day 2. I will get there however long it takes! Start you have nothing to loose!
Well done and keep at it. I am just getting back into it at 50 so understand how you feel. I remember the buzz i used to get in 20's, 30's and 40's getting fit so trying to think that again when running xx
No, no, no ... you can do it. Follow the programme faithfully, make sure you take your rest days and take it slowly. It's not a competition, it's just about you.
Keep reading this forum, there's loads of advice from experienced runners and keep posting to let us know how you're doing. Happy Running !
I'm no spring chicken at 48, and only started running 2 years ago. And I've lost 3 stone with slimming world at the same time!
At a recent 10 k race I fell into step towards the end (I was slowing down, having started off too fast and she had gone steadily all the way!) with a lady of 70, who explained she runs ultra marathons and she was on holiday doing a little 10k. Two things struck me about it: 1) it's not about speed and 2)she said if I'm still running after 2 years, having started at 46, I'll be running for life. I hope that's the case.
Get out there, take it easy, don't rush, repeat runs if you need to, slow down if it's too hard, and you too could have 40 more years of running ahead of you!
