Hi I'm 69 and have just completed day one of week 5. My ankles have been quite sore but I am just pleased to have got this far - does it get any easier?
Week 5 day 2 tomorrow: Hi I'm 69 and have just... - Couch to 5K
Week 5 day 2 tomorrow
Nope...but you get stronger and every week gets better and better!
Slow and steady...you will get there
"No one will tell you it will be easy...but they will tell you it will be worth it!"
It gets easier in the sense you don't feel the stress and uncertainty of the early runs...but physically you then start to push a bit harder so you actually feel 'worse' in away
But you certainly do enjoy it all immensely once you find the right combination of speed/time/distance/pace.! It's maybe the hardest exercise you will ever love!
Just take it slow and steady, don't mess with the Rest Days - if there is only ONE 'cardinal rule' here its to always observe them - and pretty soon you will have graduated and graduated well and happy
Thanks Irish-John I walk 6 miles every day with no problems but this running I am like a "lobster" when I finish
I would have thought with the running I am doing lately I would finish fresh-faced and loping like a Primo Gazelle.
Swear to Odin - I look like I have been parboiled instead and anytime I try to lope I almost fall over
Physiology Rules! - so I just settle for having fun instead of doing it all with style
Loved the last paragraph. I needed to read that. I got a little cocky after running week 5 day 3 for 20 minutes last week and thought I could rollerblade on my rest day. Boy was I wrong. I rollerbladed really well the next day, but was really hurting the following day and I haven't hurt in the first 5 weeks at all!
I don't feel so bad now!!
I am doing Week 5 Day 2 tonight and am a little apprehensive as it is a big jump... but we have got this far so I am sure we can both do it... good luck
I'm waiting for the day that I don't feel sore and tired. I guess if that day comes I didn't try hard enough.
Enjoy it!
Hi Carolinemcd there are quite a few young people doing the couch2 5k and it is good talking to them after and realising it is not just me feeling tired and sore!!
Week 5 Day 2 - so pleased that I was able to run 8 minutes not just once but twice. Now how do I go from that to 20 minutes?
I just did it last week and never ever thought I would be able to make it the full 20. Not sure why they jump up that much, but take it really really slow and you will do it. It feels so good when you do it! I normally run around my neighborhood block and there are some hills. I went to my daughter's school track to do this bad boy and I was so happy I did. It was so much easier on the level track as opposed to hills. I definitely would not have done the 20 minutes around my block. Good luck!
I did Week 5 Run 2 today as well. Was quite worried about it but it went fine! My ankles are hurting a bit now but I'm sure they'll ease off by the morning - I've been standing up all evening since the run singing in my chorus, so nothing like being a glutton for punishment!
Re stepping up to Friday's 20 minute run, I'm telling myself it's only four minutes more than today! Factually correct...wonder if my body will go with that on Friday morning when I do Run 3 😂😂😂 Good luck with your run!
Hi Feistlet didn't realise that we had to do 20 minutes until last night - not looking forward to tomorrow morning. I usually walk 6 miles so I will maybe run from the top of one of the hills .... maybe going down the hill will keep me going!! Good luck with your run!!
Well my sister who is 72 and I did 20 minutes this morning. It was tough enough but we are just pleased that we were able to do it.
I have just completed my Week 5 run 1 and feel really pleased cos I did it and didn’t stopped. Really looking forward to the next run.
I’m exactly where you are. I don’t think it’s got easier but I’ve found you start to believe that you will do it. Someone told me running is always hard but it’s great once you’ve done it (and I’ve found that to be true). Keep going - I’m sure if we keep doing it we will get there.
