first run!

Just joined and a real newbie to running, I usually ride a bike so running is a new skill for me to master. Did my 1st run on the programme last night and I thought it went ok but was shocked how much my legs felt like lead after the half way mark. Don't think this is going to be a duck to water experience but I will stick with the programme.

Yep, one run at a time, day off, back on it. Slow, slow, slower. Take your time and you'll nail those runs and not get injured

Good luck 😀

Welcome and well done! Isn't it odd how hard that first run is. If I've learned anything from being on this forum, it's to slow down and just keep going. And somehow slowing down means you can keep going.

Ditto the two previous replies. I'm nearing the end now and can honestly say it's Laura and this forum that have kept me going. You'll be fine!

Well done, so what's next for you??

Ha ! I used to cycle and walk and thought I was reasonably fit when I started this. My legs hurt SO MUCH after the first session.....However I persisted and one unexpected benefit is that my uphill cycling capacity massively increased.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Do you not cycle anymore? I'm wanting to combine the two by cycling on some of my rest days, I know not technically resting but my legs are used pedal pushing now. I'm hoping that the endurance I have built up with my cycling will transfer to my running. (maybe). However I will make sure I get rest days as well during the week. I'm no spring chicken!!!! anymore...

Thanks Dpsl for your reply, and everyone else. I'm not sure I could go any slower, but I don't care how slow I am. I just want to complete the programme and go from there...

cycling is good for you pins, so you should be in pretty good condition?

The heavy legs should pass.. just watch your pace, go slow & steady, make sure you're well hydrated all though you shouldn't need any additional water doing the programme, the warmer weather is coming in now, and how do I know that? Well I ran 5k today in my running trousers a shirt sleeved compression base layer and long sleeve tech top, need shorts and short sleeves on now me thinks!😁 anyway, enough of me, but for you, make sure you stretch your legs well after the cool down 5min walk..😊

Well done on getting started. The heavy legs will pass and with your cycling you will already have a good level of fitness. The programme is fantastic
