I graduated on Thursday last week, but wanted to improve on my 3.89k distance. I'm in France and we've had, I think, the tail end of Doris (Storm) since Saturday so it's been hard to get out without being blown over. Today I seized my opportunity because I run residential courses and have one starting tomorrow, so it was the last guaranteed chance I'd have for a "long" run for a whole week... It's still blowing a gale and the wind was against me at the start. I decided it was silly to look at my pace because I just wanted to enjoy it, though I could barely catch my breath because of the wind. When I turned to run in the opposite direction I was hoping for some help from the gale but...no....it was so strong I had to try and stop it from blowing me forwards (I'm only 5ft!!) and/or lifting me in the air; so that was a bit of a struggle. That said, I do like the cool air blowing on my face
Round the next corner and for the rest of my run, the wind was blowing across me - but wasn't so bad and it started to feel less like a battle... I really wanted to reach 4k this time, but when I did I thought I'd carry on just a bit longer, since I was really enjoying it then and had a long walk home if I stopped... Then I thought - what a pity to stop at 4.5k - so I plodded on at a steady pace until I reached 5k (in 42:19) !!! Hope you don't mind - I wanted to share this excitement with someone!
Hope the weather's better for you, wherever you are...
