I managed to get my final, W9R3 run done before noon today. With puzzled dog trotting beside me on a loose lead for company.
In the final minutes Laura urged me to "push through the pain" and it occurred to me that I was in no pain at all - not even my suspect right knee was giving any trouble. (I have it strapped up and am running only on grass to be sure) I am very, very lucky that my body has coped so well with decades of idleness, sport-shunning, repeated childbirth and scrupulous observation of wine o'clock.
So I have done Couch to 5K! I would never have thought it possible that at 58, with a BMI of 27-28, I could jog comfortably for 30 minutes without stopping. It has taken me more like 9 weeks and four days to be honest as I "stretched" the gaps between runs over Christmas but I have never allowed more than two days between runs.
So in true Oscar acceptance speech style I would like to thank:
My dog Merlin the cockapoo for getting me out of the house;
The Couch to 5K programme;
- and especially the great advice and encouragement I have had from this forum!
Wormwood Scrubs for providing enough soft ground for a varied and enjoyable run each time;
And, last but not least, my Enell sports bra! I advise any woman who is more than a DD to invest in one of these - it completely changes the whole experience. Best sports bra for the "well-endowed woman" by far!
So onward and upward! My next challenge will be to keep it up and to persuade my other half to get out and running too!
