I am totally dreading doing run three tonight. I was literally breathing out of my backside on Saturday doing 8 minutes never mind 20 ! I'm totally psyching myself up to fail here I know ! Any tips lovely people?

Yes. Don't think about failing. Running is about positivity 😊 The programme is progressive to enable you to move on. You've completed the previous runs so you can now move on. Just go steady, do what Laura says, and you'll get round. Hopefully it will be cooler later on this evening to make life that bit easier 😊

Think positive! Make that your mantra ☺ Enjoy your run

Because there are 2 runs of 8 minutes in W5R2, run 3 is only 4 minutes extra in total than the previous run. It is a big jump, don't get me wrong, but considering you've already stepped up from running 9 minutes total in week 3 to a total of 16 minutes in week 4, it's very do-able!

Go slow and steady - if you feel like you need to stop just slow down a bit more. Once you hit 10 minutes remember from that point you are counting down, not up. Use any tactics you've learned in the last 5 weeks to keep those gremlins at bay. You can do it!

Breathe through your mouth or nose instead of your backside :)

Seriously, go as slow as you possibly can, then keep it slow, slow, slow, slow. I really struggled on this run but even though I thought I was going slow, I needed to go slower. It IS doable, even if the 8 minutes felt like he'll (it did for me too). Go slow, get through it bit by bit. Positive thoughts. Will be routing for you :)

Think positive thoughts and trust in the programme. You will achieve it. Just go slow, set off slower than you usually do and keep it very slow until you hear that you are half way through then you can decide whether to up pace for the home straight or not. Lots of us here will be cheering for you and looking for your next post☺

Remember what Laura tells you - believe in it! YOU, (yes you) ;-) are ready for this. A lot of it is in the head. Just get out there and enjoy it. I did my week 5, run 3 yesterday morning and with me, I find the first 5-10 minutes the worst then for some reason it gets easier. Believe in yourself - you can do it. If you're struggling slow down but try as you might to get to the end. Think of it as you have a bet with someone that you can do it and a lot of money is at stake :-D Good luck - let us know how you get on.

There have been so many stages where I reach the end of a run and think no way can I do the "huge increase" the next one asks.

However, I do it to my own surprise sometimes even on the first go.

When it takes a few "practices" and I start getting down on myself as a result, I scroll back through my history and reexperience the feeling I had looking at W1D1.

That tends to put present doubts in perspective as to what I can achieve 😉

I do my first 20 minute run tomorrow, might take a "long" time to get it ticked off, but slow and keeping it slow has worked so far. I bet you can do it ☺

If you're breathing *that* heavily, you're almost certainly going too fast. Try and slow down and jog (JOG!) at a pace you can comfortable hold a conversation at. It's not called "conversational pace" for nothing ;-)

That's my advice for your W5R3 - SLOW DOWN - do that and you'll manage absolutely fine!

Good luck!

John
