Hello all, 5 weeks ago I decided to start jogging and it is the best decision I have made. I have since been doing this everyday for an hour in the morning. It is part of my training for race for life and for me to stay fit and healthy!

Go you! An hour _every_ day seems to be a lot, most advice is to start at 3 times a week and gradually improve.

However, if you have been doing this everyday for 5 weeks and not noticed any pain then maybe it is right for you?

Anyways, good going, and you look so happy :-).

Wells done, it's surprising how much better you feel after a run, sort of smiley inside.☺

This goes to show that people get into running lots of different ways. It's remarkable if you were a beginner that you could run for an hour straight away. That's some serious stamina and determination you've got.

You'll find that almost all of us here though have got into running via the Couch to 5K programme and specifically the NHS version of it (and the programme is what we mostly talk about on this forum, along with how we've built on it). This method builds up much more gradually to prevent the injuries which are so common in runners. This programme involves always having at least one non-running day after each day of running - the theory behind this is that it restores your body and prepares it for the next one (I would say especially important if your running usually involves roads and pavements)

You're unlikely to want to start C25K at this point as you are doing so well as you are... but it may be worth bearing in mind, perhaps just the principles rather than the actual programme, if you hope to continue running long term after your event.

Brilliant.. go you... :) Well done. :)

I agree with GoogleMe ...maybe take a look at this programme... it may give you some tips or ideas and really bring you on in a safe and gentle way, ( especially if you are pavement pounding:)

Well Done I'm 63 and pursuing walk/jog and back to BOXERCISE

Well Done

On this forum it has to be said we don't talk about jogging (although somewhere in the coaching on the NHS podcasts there is mention of a light jog) We like to think we are all runners (even though some of us run at many others' walking pace) It is all about a different motion.
