signed up for 1st Half Marathon: yikes, am I mad... - Couch to 5K
signed up for 1st Half Marathon
Good one.......and you may be slightly mad I dont know.
Please Let us know how the training goes.
I'm starting to get the urge to do the same but it's still early days in my running career.
Oh my word!! It's sooooo hilly!! Why not pm Dunnja , she's doing it too and she might be able to offer you some advice. Also, read the articles Realfoodieclub posted today about hydration. Good luck Paul
Crikey that is indeed hilly. How is that possible? I that East Anglia was notorious for being flat. Didn't Noel Coward say so?
Still, you've got plenty of time to train for it. Be sure not to neglect hill day.
I think, yes you're a bit mad but it is on your doorstep so why not have a go? Don't fancy a half marathon myself any time soon though!
Noel Coward, that font of all knowledge on all matters running. He also sang about mad dogs and English men! 😊
Oooh Paul , Them thar hills !
Good Luck ! You've got time to train, run to the hills ! xxx
I didn't see the elevation bit when I 1st looked, now you've got me worried
Hi Paul.
Well done on signing up. It is a hilly one and you hit constitution hill at about mile 4 and mile 9.5. Eeek. This will be the first time I've run it but everyone says it's one of the most rewarding. I would suggest lots of hill training incorporated into your training. There will be a few of us running hills in readiness so you are welcome to join us
Xx
I did the hilly sheffield half marathon last month and it was fine. This was about a year after graduating but as long as you stick to the training plan it will be fine. But do lots of training on hills!!! I thought I was a bit mad signing up for it just before Christmas but ended up finishing I just over 2 hours
It looks quite similar in profile to my first HM (and am planning to do again in October) and has some nasty inclines in the last 6-7K which are going to sap your energy.
As has been said above, there is no way to prepare for that type of lumpy route except by incorporating a sensible amount of hill training into your plan.
All the best.
