Half marathon???

Having just graduated at a snail's pace.

My new year resolution is to hopefully run the Manchester half marathon in October.

There are so many different plans out there and all looking bit too much for me to handle, being an wrinkly.

Are there any plans for the best way to train without over doing it, and getting an injury.

Ps. Just done 5 k today

To run a half marathon you will need to run 10k first, so popping over to the Bridge to 10k forum would be a good starting point as they have their own 10k plan.

Thank you I will have a look.

Have you read the guide to post C25k running?

As you graduated from c25k just over a week ago it would be better to run 30 minutes 3 x a week for a few weeks. Then go over to the bridge210k and complete that plan then consolidate on 10k for a few weeks . Then you can take it from there . Good luck 😊😊

Thanks, I'll definitely be doing 3 runs a week.

It's difficult trying not to go too far, but my hubby hurt himself going too fast and far, so I've taken that on board.

Exactly too much too soon can lead to injury . Just take your time 😊

Complete your consolidation runs first. After that; I don’t t know if you’ve got a Garmin, but I’ve set up a plan on mine, which is brilliant because it’s tailor made for you. Before that I was very daunted by other plans I’d seen and was very put off starting any training. Now I’m 100% motivated.

I don't have a Garmin but I'll have a look at them. Might be a late Christmas present 🤞

I got a Garmin for Christmas. It wouldn’t let me finish the setup without picking a coaching programme so now apparently I’m working towards a half marathon in April! 😳

By the way, if you like lots of information about your runs then you’ll love a Garmin.

Ju jus 10k plan over the bridge is great. Much easier to go from 5 to 10 than c25k good luck

True Grannytobe. Someone told me it was easier to get from 5k to 10k than it was 0 to 5k.

Then someone else said it's easier to get from 10k to 10 miles than 5k to 10k. Think there is a conspiracy 😂😂

Think I’ll maybe stick around 10k for a bit. So windy today my 10k turned into 8 I then had to walk headlong into the gales for the final 2k home. Good run though for my last 2019. Walking on Hogmanay then a run on the 1st whatever the weather

Me too. The weather here today was dry no wind and 10 degrees. Definitely doesn't feel like December.

I love a HM, I do one a year and build up really slowly. My main advice would be take your 5km time into consideration. I am a slow runner and most plans are timed so if I follow them I would not be trained up for the right distance. For example it takes me 1:25 ish to run 10km most plans finish at 1 hour. I am desperately trying to get a sub 3 hour HM. I have been trying for 6 years 😀. That is something else to take into consideration if your pace is a bit slower, My training sessions are longer and burn a few more calories because of it so I do have to watch what I eat. Low calorie diets and long distance training are not good companions, You need to fuel your training for best results.

Saying that training for the six months leading up to my HM is the best part of my year and I look forward to it every year. Have fun take it steady and you will be fine.
