Getting Started

Today will be my very first jog/walk of the 5K programme, I have entered a 10k race for life in Edinburgh in May so need to get cracking. I need all the support I can get as I cant run to the end of my garden path at the moment !!

Feeling very nervous and self conscious

Hi there- you will be just fine. I felt very self conscious too but you will soon get over that as you will be concentrating so hard! Let Laura guide you through on the app and believe you can do it. Your fitness will increase quickly you stick with it. Make sure you have decent running trainers (mine were thirty quid from Sports Direct) as this will make a big difference. Good luck and keep us posted!

Beautiful picture! That should give you some enthusiasm to get out there! Just remember through the programme to always congratulate yourself on what you HAVE done, (like signing up to a race/giving c25k a go), rather than on what you have got to do next (doing a harder run/eventually running 10k!). If you focus on that you will take things one run at a time and then in a few months look back in wonder at what you have achieved!! It's also much less intimidating!

Also keep coming back to forum and updating us/telling how how you are finding it (good or bad, we'll either congratulate you or give you lots of encouragement to keep at it!)

Hello! :)

I think how you feel right now is exactly the same how a lot of people on this forum felt when they were first starting the plan. Just remember that you're lapping everyone sat on the couch and you're making a positive difference. You'll find that the plan does wonders for your self-esteem as you progress, too. :) Well done for taking the first step and good luck for your runs. Remember to pop back here often, we're a friendly bunch :)

Well done for making the big step to get started! I found that, due to work commitments, weather, holiday etc. that I had to take two weeks to complete some of the weeks. I also repeated a run if I felt that it hadn't gone so well which seems to have worked for me because I am now at week 7!! (started in Dec). I wish you all the best and will 'follow' your progress - so get cracking!!

I may have to similar due to shifts and on call commitments.

Good luck - I expect you to be as addicted as the rest of us on here to the feeling you get when you complete a run!

Let us know how you got on- it's nice here as everyone is actually rooting for one another rather than competing. It's great for tips, advice, motivation etc.
