Getting started

As an unfit, overweight 50 year old, I desperately need to do something. I've made a great start. I've downloaded the Couchto5K onto the iPod and joined this forum. Oh and I've also dug out my trainers. This plan is easy!

Just realised next step is to get outside and run! Yikes!!!!

From one unfit, overweight 50 (52 in my case) year old to another, if you follow the program you will succeed! Don't worry if you need to repeat runs/weeks, don't listen to anyone who says you're too slow. Just listen to Laura and before you know it you'll be running for 30 minutes!

I agree with carolinew, do it at your own pace and it can be done. Get out there and enjoy yourself :)

Hello and welcome, from another who was obese unfit and 50 when she started this in Dec. It has changed my life! (for the better by the way!)

Good luck x

Welcome to the family from one 50 year old to another! You have taken the first steps so now just need the first run under your belt and then you will be hooked - no doubt about it! The plan IS easy though sometimes the runs are not so but persevere and you will get there and enjoy it. Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on.

I was an unfit 53 year old when I started and after week 1 thought 'how am I ever gonna do this'. One year on and still loving getting out there. Done a 10k, now running 3-4 miles three times a week to keep the health up and the weight in check. Life changing..stick at it, you can do it!

Hi Im an overweight 40yr old and think you are great. I wish I'd seen sense 20 years ago! Hope to run my way to fitness and not struggle with weight issues forever.

Go for it ! Four months ago I was an unfit 49 year old who struggled to run for the bus, now I can run for 30 min. and feel good at the end of it. I can't praise this program enough. Just one thing if you find your shins, knees or ankles hurting treat yourself to some good running shoes ASAP they really do help. Don't make my mistake and soldier on with an old pair of worn out trainers.
