Old age ain't no place for sissies...

So said Bette Davis... but tonight I do feel my age...and a bit of a sissy!

Haven't run for two weeks and two days since I got Bronchitis... and quite suddenly and unexpectedly, feel as if I have lost a lot of ground.

I have persevered with some strength and flex exercises to keep the old muscles supple, and am heading out tomorrow for an initial, very brisk walk. ( It is gonna' be dry!!!)

A bit nervous and wondering if I will be able to get back to the stage I was at two weeks ago!

Yep.. feeling a bit sorry for myself...!

Still tomorrow is a new day.. so will keep you posted.. hopefully the rambling wordsmith, will return!!!!

Aw bless your heart , Floss xxx

Come here , have a Pug Hug (((( ))))

Bronchitis is very debilatating , it can take some getting over and can make you feel really run down and low.

Dont put any pressure on yourself xxx

If you feel up to it , and only if you feel up to it , maybe add a few minutes or so of a gentle jog amongst your walk .

Good Luck lovely lady, let us know how youre getting on , I miss your wonderful posts xxx

Aww. Have you thought about how best to approach that return run? Sometimes it helps to have a strategy almost more from the mental management aspect; I found returning to running was daunting, and I decided to do 2x 10 min runs with a break in between, it W6R2 (I think it's that one), did that twice then went on to 25 min run then back to normal... Not sure if this would suit you - just a thought. Better to succeed at something smaller and get your body back to accepting you are in charge, then build on it.😀 Good luck! 😀

Thanks you so much for the support.. ( Read this in bed last night) I went out this morning.. and did what you suggested, but only alternated between five minute walks then five minute runs... I just did four repeats of each... I felt the planning helped me and I did not feel pressured.

I survived too!

Post to follow! :)

What a woman Bette Davis was. I loved her in Now Voyager.

Oops I digress.

Running or walking, doesn't really matter as long as you're out there moving. It will be as dry as the sahara (she lied)

Have a lovely time. You won't be the only one out there. Loads of us will be out there too, giving it large

Brilliant film... I love Bette Davis too!

It was lovely, if somewhat treacherous... and it was dry.. does ice count as dry???

Thanks for the support... makes so much difference to my mind set :)

Post to follow!

Cut yourself some slack, bronchitis is bound to knock your oomph. I'm a newbie so what do I know but gentle back in and be kind to yourself :-)

You'll be great. Sometimes a forced rest brings renewed vigor to your running. Just ease back in and you'll do just fine.

It was fine...(post to follow) and I think you are right.. my legs were fine and I was running, (slowly, when I did run,) very strongly... I thought my legs would feel week.. but they didn't..

Thanks for your supportx

Commiserations, Floss. There's nothing like a chest infection to knock the stuffing out of you. :(

Suspect your legs will be completely fine when you do run again because you'd built up your weekly distances very nicely before the lurgy struck. However, make sure you ease yourself back in very gently - don't want the bronchitis taking an encore. I'm in the same boat myself- had a bad bout of asthma that's morphed into a chest infection, so I'll be very interested to know how you get on. Take care :)

Yep.. so yukky.. and poor you too ..! Hope you feel better soon. You need to be really sensible and not head out until sorted?

I went out this morning.. ( read all my posts last night before sleep..) and it was fine.. you know my motto anyway, slow and steady.. and the ice made sure that was the case.. post to follow!!! I took it really steadily, and did a five minute walk followed by a very, very slow five minute jog.. repeated this four times then wandered home.. in the sunshine. Did not cough at all, but my nose ran wonderfully!

I was nervous.. but I survived!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your support it means a lot x

I made a few litres of chicken and veges soup. Do you want some?

Eat well and you will be back in form in no time. I often go back to the program whenever I stop running and I am surprise how fast I am back to old c25k+

Take care

Yes please...seem to have been living on home made soup..but I love it!

I ran, ( well a little bit) this morning and survived to tell the tale.. post later!

Thanks x

Sounds like you are being hard on yourself, I think 2 weeks off for bronchitis is perfectly understandable and im sure ive read that 2 weeks or so does not affect Your fitness. Good luck for today and take it easy, enjoy your surrounding and come back to us with one of your beautifully written description of your walk 😊I'm heading out in a bit and my head is trying to find excuses as I'm usually an evening runner and i have a sniffy more but I made a pact with myself last night so am going! After my cuppa in bed! 😆x

I did get out there this morning.. (post follows..) not as bad as I feared, and I survived...always a bonus!

Hope you got out too :)x

Be kind to yourself - it's supposed to be fun, not a boot camp! I haven't been out since last weekend, because I've had two sick kiddos and now they've passed on their germs so my next run will probably be a gentle lumber, when I feel better, with no pressure to perform. Do likewise... it's only a few days and in comparison to the amont of time we spent without doing any sport at all before C25K (28 years in my case), it's a drop in the ocean, kiddo ....

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate

So right..good advice indeed.

I was kind to myself...headed out in the sunshine, and frost, this morning, walked a bit and jogged very slowly for a bit then repeated. Took time to smell the flowers...(not literally) and wandered home feeling so much more alive!

Lumber is a great word... but if it gets you round the block...who cares?

Hope you feel back on form soon:)

I've read it takes 3 weeks off for your stamina and strength to decline. I think you'll be able to get back to where you were pretty quickly. Bronchitis is nasty, glad you're feeling a bit better.

Well I think that must be right.. went out this morning and survived...just about to post.

Thank you for the support.. it really, really helps me! :)

You're bound to feel a bit crook after bronchitis so take it easy!

You're body has not forgotten how to run in two weeks but just build up a bit gently again.

You'll be fine sweetie!
