Ankle Injury Update

So I’ve taken all of the great advice I was given. Rested, iced, compressed and elevated the ankle over the weekend. I went out for a tentative walk today to the coffee shop and while I can feel a bit of discomfort the bad pain is absent for the moment. I will keep convalescing and not even think about running until it has healed completely.

I was advised that I won’t lose my fitness for between 2 and 3 weeks. I’m not so sure about that as I struggle enough to walk up hill as part of my pre run work out but I feel relaxed about completing the programme. Acceptance is the key here. If I try and run on the ankle before it’s time I’ll simply put myself out for longer. Plus I felt a bit vulnerable on Saturday after I did the injury. I live up 3 flights of stairs and the nearest supermarket is a 12 minute walk so I need to not incapacitate myself, not to mention I have to work tomorrow. I’ll walk every day and maybe go for a gentle jog on Saturday (only if there is no discomfort at all) before attempting to complete the programme. At this stage it doesn’t seem like something that will keep me out for longer than a week but you never know.

My ankle is a little unhappy today. I suspect it's all the driving on country roads I did yesterday, and the regular use of the clutch pedal. Thankfully today is a rest day for me.

I also felt tightness in the calf whilst out shopping this lunchtime and had to resist doing leaning calf stretches against the shelves in Lidl. 🤣

Sorry to hear that. Keep looking after it. Mine is healing quickly but it’s a long-standing injury and I need to manage it better.

What seems to be happening at the moment is that the afternoon/evening after a morning run I exhibit all sorts of little niggles, but by the following day I'm fine again. I also ran yesterday morning and had ankle tenderness later in the day which has disappeared this morning.

I think this is sensible !

No point taking the risk .

Rest up and complete the program when you are fully fit and ready 👍

Absolutely. I’m actually grateful I can even walk on it tbh
