Hi I've just joined and so glad I have. I've just completed run 3 of week 6 and have been worrying about how fast/slow I'm going. After reading a few posts I now realise it doesn't matter as long as you keep going ๐
Week 6 Run 3: Hi I've just joined and so glad I... - Couch to 5K
Week 6 Run 3
Forget about how fast or slow your run is when compared to other people. Everyone is different has come from different starting points and has different goals. The aim of the programme is to get you running for 30 minutes continuously. The pace doesn't matter. Speed will come later, if that's what you want.
I am doing week 6 day 3 on Friday! I think my speed has picked up a little but now I am going on all runs without breaks, not going to worry about it - just want to do my time. I am going to measure the distance I cover on Friday and when I finish C25K, going to work towards running 5 K three times a week first and when that is reasonably ok, will think about the speed.
I think we can only do one thing at a time and I don't want my old legs to get injured (I am 51)!
Good luck for tomorrow I didn't think I would do it but I did!! I'm 50 in a couple of months time and have never run before but I'm glad I have started this and I intend to finish ๐
Wow, I am 51 and a new runner too. If my knees hold out, will see it through to the end and plan to see how far I travel tomorrow so I can see what 5K might look like although my guess is that I am covering around 3-4 k at my slowish pace but we will soon find out. My medium term goal is to be able to comfortably run 5K and to go to Parkrun.
After that, will see how my weightless and fitness goes.

Good morning
I was just wondering how you got on with your run yesterday?
Bless u, it was fine. Prepared for it by resting well the day before. I was worried, feeling that it was going to be a transition from running with breaks into non stop running. However, told myself I've run for 20, so 25 is just 5 extra minutes and I kept my pace and breathing slow and steady. Had a couple of issues with burning calves but just relaxed it as I ran and it eased. I tracked my distance (including walking) and it was 4.2 km, average pace 9.26 mins per km and the total run time was 25 mins.
I am pretty happy with it, once the C25K programme is complete, I can then start working towards running 5 km, then work on speed improvement. I have downloaded the C25K+ podcasts!!
How r u getting on??
Julie
I did my first run of week 7 this morning after 5 minutes I thought I don't think I can do this today but I did!!
I don't find it easy at all my treadmill said I had covered just over 3kms which includes the warm up and cool off walk๐ฉ
Clearly I'm not going to crack the 4 minute mile any time soon but I keep telling myself it's the taking part that counts.
How do you track how far/fast you are going?
Anyways for a nearly 50 year old and a 51 year old I think we're doing great๐

I run outside as it seems more interesting and once I realised no one was interested, not too bothered. I have downloaded an app called Runkeeper onto my phone. Each time I go out, it uses satellites to track my route, speed and distance. Even gives me a 5 minute update too. All the runs are stored so I can compare for the future too. Easy to use and free!
Welcome W!
I think many of us have felt a bit concerned over our pace at some point, I know I have and it's only natural I think. But I have been told by those much wiser and more experienced than myself that stamina come before pace. And I can see where they are coming from.
We can work on speed when we graduate if we so wish and I've been told that speed comes with time anyway.
Happy running and keep doing your thang!
Ps, how'd you do that sunglasses smiley?!
Your not wrong I've decided to just be proud I'm doing the program ๐
There's a smiley face on my iPad keyboard press it and have fun ๐
Welcome! I am right there with you in the program. You're right, don't worry about speed - that's for later. Congratulations on finishing the run!
