Hi - I intend to graduate tomorrow - what apps have you all used to train for a 10k please?
10k app recommendation: Hi - I intend to... - Couch to 5K
10k app recommendation
I have no app recommendations but wanted to say Good Luck for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
I'm not a lot of help here. I used no app at all. I just worked my way up little by little..... One day, there you are....10k!
I tried Myasics, it didn't really suit me although I still use the app to log all my runs in one place. Most people say -
! x intervals or shorter faster run per week
1x maintenance 5K
I x longer slower run adding 10% of your total distance per week
That worked for me. Just don't try and add to much per week, 500 mts or 1KM is enough
Good luck x
I continued with the RunDouble C25K series as I'd got on very well with the initial C25K programme and they had a 5-10k programme which looked sensible. You start out doing five minutes' warm up, followed by five lots of eight minutes' running, interspersed with a minute's walk, and finally a five-minute cool down walk. Each week of three runs gradually increases the running time (e.g. week two is four runs of 12 minutes, week three is 3 runs of 18 minutes) and I found it pretty achievable. And I was only doing this once a week, so I spread each of the programme week's runs out over three weeks, if that makes sense!
I haven't used an app. Just a week or two consolidating the 5k then increased one run a week by about 10%. Now doing one 'cadence run' where I aim for 180 bpm for the whole run for 30 mins and one 5k run where I try and up my pace and do some interval runs (when I remember what I'm supposed to be doing!) I'm up to 8k now and 8.8k planned for this week.
There are lots of plans and apps out there to check out and I'm sure there will be someone along soon with some recommendations
Good luck for tomorrow and happy running
Like others here I didn't use an app - carried on doing 3 runs a week, one 30 min run, one C25K+ speed/stamina podcast and one 'long' run. I used Laura's week 9 podcasts for a while to time my runs, till I got too sick of the music! I added around 10% a week to my 'long' runs till I was there, in practice that was 5 mins extra a week until I was running for about an hour. Some people will advocate the Sami Murphy podcasts, but I would say be very careful because they massively increase the amount of running you do really quickly, way above the recommended 10% and quite a few people have been injured that way.
Good luck for your graduation - I guess you've done it by now!
Look at the 10k runner app. They have a C25K app which basically mirrors the podcasts and a 21k app too. It will get you from 5k up to 10k *in 5/6 weeks - have a look and see what you think
(When I say 10k I mean running for an hour not pure distance)
Stepping stones with our Laura. do all those, a lot! They will keep you busy and move your running on a bit. i absolutely love Sami Murphy Bridge to 10k. i ran it today snd on sunday.
Thanks everybody for your really helpful hints and links - P
