Week 3 completed with a bit of effort..

So today I completed week 3, really proud of that but looking forward to week 4 not looking so easy, I was still suffering with pain in my legs this morning and have made an appointment to see the doctor regarding my shin splints, I am fairly certain it is an issue with Biomechanics, but kind of hoping that it is just the fact I am new runner and carrying a bit of excess weight, would be absolutely gutted if this kept me from running for a prolonged period of time.

I' m certainly not running fast as Map my run will attest to, and can't afford the Gait, running shoes etc.. at the moment, I keep researching on the internet and continue to do strengthening exercises of the shins in hope this will ease the problem.

Maybe I should take 2 days rest instead of the usual 1?

Hoping for a solution quickly...

Taking 2 rest days during the programme is a good idea imo as a lot of us struggled with bones and muscles to start with. Once your bod strengthens and gets used to the pounding it's getting, you will probably stop having these problems.

Keep going and you'll feel better inside and out. I'm a size 20, quite a few stones overweight, never run in my life and just done wk 4, run 1 and although I ache I feel good overall. I have arthritis in both knees and have suffered from a broken foot and torn ligaments in the past so I get a lot of pain but I'm just keeping it slow and want to see if I can make it to the end of week 9. Good on you for getting to week 3. PMA...

taking an extra or extra days rest is a good way to go , it is a real shock to our systems and bodies to start exercising again ,i still like to have a 2 day rest between 1 week and the next :)

Hi, I too started getting shin pain. I plonk an ice pack (frozen peas work!) on when I get back from a run and at any other time I feel like it. I find that really helps me. Also got some compression socks which may be helping and cheaper than new Trainers. I would also agree have 2 days rest. Good luck!

I feel for you...if you can stretch to gait analysis and decent shoes it makes ALL the difference. I had the same as you by the end of C 25 k and I could barely walk ( bought some shoes from sports direct for 25 quid in case I didn't stick to it). I spent 100 quid and I have had no problems since if I stick to buying the same shoe ... Get it checked out and good luck

Hi Gary, Yes , definitely take a couple of rest days, as many as you see fit really.

Dont be too hard on yourself, a few aches and pains are normal at the beginning. Put a couple of bags of frozen veg on your shins to ease the pain. I got some calf supports from Poundland and they are really good for sore shins.

I know its very disheartening when you cant go on a run as planned , but it is only temporary,you will get better.
