Best gadget to measure distance ?

I am looking into getting something to measure the distance i am running,preferably something to link with my pc. There seems to be so many gadgets out there any advice on what you use or what to look for would be very helpful.thanks jeni

Before I got my Garmin (basic model) I used Mapometer a lot. It's so simple to use. Basically you input your postcode and then plot on your PC where you ran and it tells you how far you went in either miles or km. If you make a note of your start and stop times you can easily work out your pace/speed. The best thing is you don't need to take anything with you when you run.

Your phone can do it, but it's not very good. Built to a price and GPS is an afterthought. Buy a Garmin and you will get far better metrics. Many models at different price levels, but if you are only interested in running just get ten cheapest.

I think there are a number of apps you can download to you phone but as I don't have a smart phone I got a garmin. There are a number of different models but really the fr10 tells you all the essential information but have a look at the different models to compare. Also if you do decide on a Garmin shop around as you might be able to save a few squid on it. I do love my Garmin!
