(Monday) Decided to forego the poncho because it would be a bit warm but likewise final choice was possibly not good either. The flowered pink top was as close to a white top with pink spots as I could get hold of at short notice. Nanna, thank you for the loan. So, I looked pretty stupid but there is a greater chance of my visage having graced the screens.
The race was cracking. We saw the cyclists slogging their way to the top of the mountain. Super heroes - no yellow sheep though. Or freebie sample packs of Yorkshire Thé. Bah!

A long walk to Top of the Mountain. (I skived running.) Met Grandma's cousin Edith who offered me buffet afterwards. Lots of meat, salmon and coleslaw. A tasty spread. Watched the race to Isengard on tv after that. (I do it by trusty steed at a much slower pace.)
Sounds like a lovely lovely day, particularly Edith's buffet. I'm so jealous. Have felt my exile from God's Own Country very keenly this last weekend- I'm originally from near Cote de Blubberhouses. Can't say I miss the massive hills when I'm running though xx
It started with the Prussian Army when France was still dominant in that part of the world.
The 31st of the month happens only 7 times per year and on that occasion the prussian soldiers received some extra allowance to finish the month.
This was linked to an inspection of all the garrisons and the soldiers had to clean and scrub their billet and make themselves as respectable as possible, hence "se mettre sur son 31".
