Getting back into the swing of things.

Ok so here is my story. November 2012 I started working out with a personal trainer. Was paying weekly and the PT I had was an awesome guy. By the 4th month in I had lost 45 pounds going from 275 to 230. Shortly after that I moved and it took a toll on my healthy habits. I fell back into my old ways. Last week I started the couch to 5k program. I just finished week 1, day 3. I'm finding I'm already running/walking around 2 miles during this workout. I'm not completely sure, but I feel like this may be a fast pace for what the program is. Even though I'm currently weighing in at about 270, I'm exhausted at the end of the run and sweating buckets. Currently running outside. But I'm not overly exhausted. For example I'm at work right now and I feel fine now. Is this normal? Or am I just strange?

The programme is designed to slowly build up our stamina to run for 30 minutes. The distance covered does not matter. If you feel it is too tiring, just slow down. It is challenging and the first 2 weeks seems very hard, but it works. It will take time for your body to get used to running and the first ten minutes seem to be hard for most people, but it get little bit easier later on.

I don't feel that it's too tiring. Just that I don't think I should be able to go this much of a distance during the first week. Maybe it has to do with my past training? Idk.

Probably. The most important is that you go at a pace you can sustain. Thinking back, I also covered about 2 miles for the first week (but I did not know it then!).

if I were you I would slow down, the idea is to complete in 30 minutes,distance is unimportant and feeling well and truly knacked after is very normal, at least it was for me and still is ! I do think I probably covered just under a mile at your stage, but dont use that as a guide, I am very slow !

I don't feel like I need to slow down. I feel like I'm going at an OK pace. Just that I wouldn't have that that the pace I'm going at is covering that much ground. Idk. Maybe I'm just over thinking it :-P

If you were a very fit person before you'll find it easier than someone who's never exercised or not done much (due to muscle memory). I remember the runs themselves being tough but I didn't ache much afterwards or feel exhausted as the programme was gradual enough for me (returning from a year old neck injury that had stopped me exercising). I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you are getting through the runs you're doing fine :)

Well completed week 2, Day 1 today before coming into work for the evening. OUI it definitely stepped it up a bit for today. Got through it without any hiccups though so not complaining at all. Due to the time of the run it was about a tenth of a mile less than my past two runs. At work right now and feel great!
