Been gradually extending my regular distances using a run: walk pattern of 4:2 and hit that magic 5 miles today!
Although I thought I would aim for a longer run this morning, it was so hot that I decided that I would call it a day at about 6k - but somehow or other just kept plodding on and decided to do one more lap around the village bringing it up to 8.2k. Mind you, I'm only averaging about 8 mins per km so no records in danger!
I'm beginning to believe that I will gradually work up to 10k.
Unbelievable!!
My first running anniversary is coming up at the beginning of July. Don't think that I will be running 10k by then, but I will have run more than 500k in total since I started recording my runs in week 6.
This programme is amazing - and, this morning, I think I'm pretty amazing too!

That's super Ully! Is that 4 mins/2 mins? I'm usually doing 8-8.5 mins per km myself. I wouldn't want to push much more than that in this heat! Congratulations to you, here's to the next 500K
Yes I'm doing intervals of 4 minutes running and 2 of walking. It really seems to suit me better than non stop running and it's helping me extend my distance.
Wow that is brilliant- so you should feel amazing! I am sure you will get to 10k, when you are ready for it. I found it just sort of crept up on me! Then I did a 10k 'race' on sunday (that was the same average speed as yourself) so I am actually starting to believe it. I like the run/walk idea, makes me feel so much more comfortable and the main thing is getting out and enjoying it. And 500k- wow, time for celebration!
That's a really good plan you have got going here . It's not about speed it's distance & like you say it's enjoyable , who wants to be speeding around in this heat anyway . Congratulations & well done on what sounds like was a very enjoyable run .
Great stuff, Ully! You'll get up to 10K and it doesn't matter how long it takes, just keep on running with what you're comfortable with! That's some distance in a year; running shoes should have some sort of distance counter on them!
