Week 5 Run 1 - not as bad as expected

A bit late reporting but I did manage to complete w5r1 on Wednesday. The first 2 5 minutes runs were OK and perhaps not too surprising as they were also part of week 4. I was expecting to struggle with the third 5 minutes. Wasn't too bad at all - much to my surprise.

I have had some pain in my left knee over the last couple of days so won't be running today as originally planned but hopefully will see run 2 tomorrow.

Definitely seeing some benefits now. Not just in run duration either.

A few people say I look like I've lost weight. Although I haven't lost much I have certainly changed shape.

For me though the real change has been in heart rate. By the 3rd 60 second run of week 1 run 1 my heart rate was well over 160. It took me ages to recover back to a 'safe' rate after that session. On Wednesday it peaked at 157 after the third run but recovered below 140 well within the cool down session. So obviously there is real benefit coming from the programme.

After dreading the start of week 5 I find myself looking forwards to the challenge of run 2 - hopefully tomorrow.

Hope that you're all enjoying the Easter break

Best

John

Well done. Probably wise to take a couple of rest days if you've got some pain. There are some knee strengthening exercises somewhere which may help.

Glad to hear you're feeling and others are seeing the benefits of C25K. All a good incentive to keep going :)

All the best for the rest of W5.

Well done on successfully completing the first run of week 5. It's great that you are progressing so very well. As you know, it's a different run for the second session of this week. Just take it slow and steady and you will be fine. You are already feeling the benefits of the programme and this is due to the work you have put into it. If your knee pain doesn't clear up with rest then maybe get checked out by your GP just to be on the safe side. For now though, Good Luck and best wishes.

Good stuff John! I think your knee will be ok and you'll be back in the saddle in a few days, to make mincemeat of what's left of Week 5

Thanks for that, johncw, I will be doing mine on Monday and it's posts like yours that give me hope! I haven't lost any weight yet but I feel less flabby. In any case, I feel a lot healthier, even if I look like a beetroot when I finish! Keep up the good work, and let us know how things are progressing :)

Thank you Treemouse thank you for your post!!! I have lost a bit of weight but I have noticed that my clothes are a lot looser as well!!!! I always look like splodgy beetroot when I finish my exertion and it doesn't seem to be improving, but hey at least we have a healthy colour!!! I see you have a cat??? I have 6 and love them all, one even comes to the shop with me and trots along on my circular walk !!! He is only a baby but he loves it !! Haha

Well roll on week 5 like you say and the best of luck to join, let me know how you get on!!! Are you doing my fitness pal as well???

Best regards

Haha, I have 5 cats! We must be mad! What is my fitness pal? It took me 3 weeks to find this site!

Absolutely that's what all my work colleagues say!!! If you go to myfitnesspal.com it is great!!! I have been using it to count my calories which I have never done before and am amazed how much snacking I was doing!!! This has helped me with my weight loss although it took me a couple of weeks to get into it I think it is a great help. Give it a go and see if it helps you

Best regards

Thanks Jo, I definitely will. It has good reviews, and I need all the help I can get. I suspect my excess calories are alcoholic! Many thanks for that, I will give it a go. Best wishes, Tracy :)

I know exactly what you mean!!!! I like my wine and has been quite hard to cut back but I work my 2 nightly glasses in now with my calories !!!!!

I am really impressed with this app! I love the way you can scan stuff in! I had about 300 calories spare today, but had to make my husband a rhubarb crumble. I had a tiny portion and made it with honey rather than sugar, so I think I'm okay today. Damn. how many calories in an inch of vodka? ;)

No idea !!! But it is good and like I said earlier I can add my bits in and still be within the allowance !!!! I was also advised that when you add in your exercise it will give you extra calories that you can use!!! As MFP works out the amount of calories you need if you don't do any exercise!!! It's great!!! Good luck

Jo
