I did it - and failed....

I actually moved from running on the treadmill to my first outdoor run of this attenpt to finish outside. After reaching week 8, run 2, I felt that it was about time that I made the transition, and did enjoy it. The first part went really well, making the rail line with the barriers up, so did not have to negotiate the step bridge over the tracks, up a gentle incline of about half km, past the school, 2 road crossings with out stopping and feeling good, breathing well and really happy, when ....shoe lace came undone! Stopped very briefly to retie, and then on to continue, but for some reason, just could not get the momentum back and ended up walking/running/more walking for the rest of the trip out. So pleased that I did make it outside, disappointed that did not complete, but will certainly be making sure that the laces are very securely tied on next attempt! Overall, not too disappointed and the Sahara Desert may have been to blame a bit as well......

Definitely blame the Sahara Desert!

Sounds like it was a good first outside run to me - Wk8 can be pretty hard, even with all the brilliant preparation you've done so far, and most people find running outside much harder going, so well done!

Well done for getting out and doing it. I find it harder on the roads but I do enjoy it more than the treadmill, there is a bit more to distract me and enjoy. Anyway you can't use the 'F' word on this site, so we will blame the pollution, I did for my run this morning! x

Doesn't sound like a failure at all to me. If you had quit and gone back to bed, that would have been failure. What you did was put in your best effort at the time, and you pushed on and got through the distance. So well done you!

Yup, I agree Tomas. You did well to make the leap from the treadmill to the great outdoors. It's only your first try at this lark, so no worries. Just dust yourself off, have a rest tomorrow and then go for the next run.

Am not going to let this worry me. Have found out that my local leisure centre do a running clinic, so am going to give that a try, and that is outside.

That is NOT a failure...running outside for the first time is a huge achievement and you did brilliantly...well done... :)

Yes, main mission achieved. Glad you've not been put off. I realised I was getting better when an undone shoelace was an irritation rather than a sneakily relieved reason for a tiny rest. Locking elastic laces are good!

You've done well by getting out there. Running outside is harder than using a treadmill, especially if you are not used to it. The air pollution over Britain didn't help matters either. Good luck with your next run. Best wishes.
