With all the talk of the winter Olympics I realised I hold a local record for the 5k. Admittedly there are no other runners in my village but that is a minor point
Tried out new circular route this evening 7.7k all the way. I managed my longest run to date 42 minutes although only 5.7k, first 30 minutes were all uphill so it was a bit of a challenge but was able to keep going. I dipped out on the last hill and walked back the last 2k. No warm up walk because I had already been out with the dogs immediately before. Still pleased with myself though it is a good set up.

The only other runner I have come across runs from a village about 5miles away. I think she is into long distance running. My guessimate of her circular route is in excess of 12 miles. I have also passed her cycling to and from work which is over 10 miles each way. I think she goes down as hard core exercise by comparison to me.
Are there local shops with local people where you live?.. 30 minutes uphill is excellent. It must be incredibly remote where you are. You may find you will set a trend and get others to start running.
I live on the Welsh side of the Shropshire / Powys border. We have one street light, a phone box and a post box. The nearest pub is about 5 miles, the nearest shop is slightly further. It is mostly farm land I am running through on a minor road. I have tried to encourage some of my neighbours but so far no takers, although one did say she will tell her daughters next time they are home. But as I'm older than their combined age I guess they will out pace me
