-- that this morning, for the first time in my life -- I ran non-stop for ONE HOUR!!!!! A bit like the Holy Grail of C25k is 30 minutes and , for most of us, a long way short of 5K -- my one hour was a long way short of 10 Klms.
But AN HOUR!!!!! What was the length of my first run?? -- 15 seconds!!

Bazza, for me that was one of the big eureka moments. A few more of those and you'll realise that you can go a lot longer. Another more seasoned runner told me that the body can store enough energy to go for about 3 hours. In other words, once you get over the mental barrier that is "running for a long time" you'll be able to do 10k, 15k, 21.1k.... It's not easy (it never is!) but it is possible.
Way to go Baz! It's a proof-positive indicator of just how far you've come from those first tentative steps. You must be so much fitter than you were back then.
I can only dream of being able to run for a full sixty minutes. What an achievement, and it seems especially amazing as you 'just realised' after the run, so hadn't set it as a specific target. Well done you! It must feel fantastic. This morning I completed W5R3, so ran for 20 minutes, which is amazing for me. I've been really helped by this forum and feel so grateful for the support and sharing of other people. Enjoy your achievement!
Ohh, I sooo envy you right now!!! Well done you!!!
That is truly excellent news indeed. As you say, the first run is measured in seconds, and most of us feel knackered at the end of that....but an hour is an absolute mile stone.
Well done you! It is a huge achievement - I'm in training for a hm and the hour long training runs are my favourite (which sounds bizarre even as I write it as I avoided any form of exercise for close on 50 years and only started running some 18 months ago when I had to lie down for 30 mins after a 60 sec run). The best feeling of all is how short a time you need to recover your breath after running for such a long time - I am still amazed after each run. I can honestly say I have never felt so healthy.
Truly amazing! Very well done! A great post - I feel in awe. I just completed 30 mins over a week ago and am finding the next 30 mins daunting to say the least. Your post is very encouraging. Thank you for sharing!
I am a long waaaaaay off running for an hour but you have inspired me to think more of time and not the distance, it's so psychological this running lark that I think that might work for me! Just get rid of dreaded flu, life issues, busy job etc and will try then! Excellent news after your disappointed at London.
