Running in the cold temperatures

Hi, does anybody know if its generally more difficult to run when the temperatures are around 5C or lower? I am finding I am short of breath really quickly when running in the cold and generally end up giving up as I am too out of breath. If so, any ideas that may help would be gratefully received? Many thanks.

I think it is probably harder when it is very cold especially if you have asthma or breathing problems anyway-maybe just slow down a bit.

But on the up side you burn more calories running in the cold! There is an article in the running mag this month

Have read previously on here that some people find a scarf or some kind of "snood" over your mouth when you run can help - not tried it personally but may be worth giving it a go? I find it hard running in this cold weather too, but get hot so quickly I often don't even bother with gloves and hat as find I'm trying to strip as I run, which doesn't help my speed lol!

As mentioned in an earlier post exercise induced asthma could be one reason but that of course needs to be checked with a doctor.

I have some problems if gets below zero but this device helps a lot then, lungplus.fi

With that I have been running down to -25C.

I find it helps to blow air out instead of breathing normally. I have Asthma and find running tough in cold temperatures.

Hi Vengadriver, yes I tried that today and it was better, also not starting too fast helped. Thanks everyone for your advice, todays run completed and feel happier!
