Hi all, I know this has probably been posted a thousand times or moore, but here goes.
I graduated back in early November, and was hitting my 5k within the 30 minutes, it was hard going but I was so pleased with myself.
I carried on for another 2 weeks doing my 3 runs a week, but then after having a stomach bug and the kids being sick and a whole host of other little things there seemed to be more readily available excuses not to go for a run than there was to go out for one
I haven't been out for well over a month now, and the same old excuses are being trotted out, no time, too cold, nearly Christmas, too much to do.
I do miss the buzz and the good feeling that I got when I finished a run, but obviously not enough to persuade myself to get out there again.
Basically all I am asking for is for somebody to come along with a big pair of size nines on and give me that kick up the you know what to get me back out and running again.
Hiya, similar situation experienced here too ... but very happy to put the boot in! I had a few health problems (breathing-wise) and my own feeling of slip/sliding backwards has been quite overwhelming! Yes, the weather is getting colder and Christmas does create havoc of its own, and bugs do seem to strike us down ... but the only way from this busy, sniffly, sickly, wheezy mire is UP! Onwards and Upwards. I've decided to grit my teeth and get out there again. I know my performance has slipped right off the scale, but you and I both know we can run ... so we just have to relocate those hiding/hibernating mojos!
I hadn't run for a month or so and had read that one's training seems to abandon you after about 3 weeks - so I knew it would be hard! I popped all the gear on and decided to wander around the local streets playing that old week 1 podcast!!! Yep, 5+k - what the heck, that was summertime! - now I needed to wake my body up again. I was pleasantly surprised that week 1 was easy peasy (NOT wheezy!) so my happy endorphins kicked in pretty readily! I had a day's rest then tried the week 2 podcast ... yippee again very do-able (not a bit like the first time I went through it).
So, I'm continuing in that vein, one of the podcasts then a rest day. I reckon I might need to do the W7, 8, 9 runs a couple of times, but I am determined to get back there.
Anyway, if you have only let things skip for a short while, all this info might not be appropriate for you ... just wanted to say, to assure you ... all is NOT lost! You really just have to pop on those shoes, abandon the Christmas preps for only 30 mins, say b****r to everyone, and go find that mojo again - with luck yours wont have had the opportunity to hide too deeply yet! Don't underestimate the effect of the happy vibes which will engulf you again once you make that effort to get out!
I think that is really good advice. I have been rubbish since my holiday in October not managing more that about 12 - 15 mins a go whereas in September was doing an hour a couple of times a week. I have kept going out a couple of times a week but making no improvemnt and have decided will have to do the same as you. If only I can find the app for my android phone that lets me use my own music. Good luck. Linda
I don't know whether this is any help but there are a few of us that do the quests. It's a personal goal that we set up for ourselves so it's individual and every week you can post and share your week. This new quest is a little one as we are all getting through Xmas. Also their are a couple of good things going on that nerdio and legion are part of and the links are there. I know its difficult in this weather but as you say the benifits so out way the negatives.
