Motivation help please

I was supposed to go for a run this morning and I didn't go because of pain. I'm currently under investigation for endometriosis (have a laparoscopy booked in a few weeks), my period's due in a few days and I have loads of pain in my lower back and right leg as well as cramps and painful, heavy pre menstrual boobs. I talked myself out of going this morning because I feel so rubbish but it's really important to me to stick to my routine as if I miss a run it's likely to all go to pot. I've shoved my running gear in the car and found a nice looking spot to run near where I'm working today. I could do with some help motivating myself to go for a run after work.

Well done for you for keeping going in spite of all that. Be gentle with yourself - better to get out there and go slowly than hammer at it and cripple yourself for days. This is a time to maybe focus on style and posture rather than pace. So proud of you for keeping going ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have found that a run actually helps period pains so go for it and you’ll feel great afterwards 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Sorry to hear you’re having such a horrible time, I know what you mean about being scared of missing one run and this sliding into totally giving up, I’m debating with myself whether to put off tomorrow’s run because I feel so lousy with a horrible cold- on one hand I feel like I’m being a bit of a wuss, on the other hand I don’t want to end up even more ill because of not resting, and I don’t want to end up letting the whole challenge slide because of one blip - I suppose what I’m dreading is just how hard the subsequent run will be if I miss one tomorrow 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️!!!

Write down two or three treats for tonight that you can only have if you do the run - a nice bubble bath, a glass of wine, fresh strawberries, the next episode of something on I-player, etc.

Don’t worry to much if you can’t do the whole of each run but do have the 30 mins walk in the fresh air (unless of course you are in agony). Hopefully the endorphins from exercise and the confidence boost will help overcome the anxiety.

Ps - take it easy for the full amount of time after the laparoscopy as it wipes you out completely. I did too much too soon and regretted it.

Bless you racheles78. If you don’t feel like running how about a brisk walk instead? It will help keep your routine but only if you can manage it without pain. I wish you well in whatever you decide. Hope your sorted soon 👍🏻

I did it!!! I've been trying to talk myself out of going all day but I decided that I'd feel rubbish about myself if I didn't so I pulled on my big girl pants and went. I repeated a week 1 run, having previously decided that I was ready to move on to week 2. And it was my slowest one yet but at least I got out there and did something. Thanks folks for the pep talks :-)

Hi I agree with the others. Put your running gear on, set the program running and see how you feel. If you find today is not the day then just brisk walk the 30 mins. Give yourself permission and don't beat yourself up. Be kind to you x Then try again on your next run day.

Not sure if this is allowed on here but hey ho... the best cure for period pains is an orgasm 🙊 as it releases the cramping muscles. How you achieve that is down to personal taste 🙈😂

Good luck x

Haha, I think we crossed posts! I did it! Repeated a week 1 run but I did it nonetheless.

I would normally fully endorse your period pain cure but endo pain is a bit beyond that and the means to achieve an orgasm are also painful. What a joyous condition!
