Well I did the week 2 run 3 this evening and before leaving the house i didnt feel great, and was looking for an excuse not to go out there, should i wait and see? do it tomorrow? well no....
So out i went and by the end of interval 2 i heard myself say outloud "there's nothing in the tank" I felt awful and could have happily thrown in the towel. But I didn't, I plodded on, and actually picked got better, and got on with it. All went ok until the last interval and 10 seconds short, I crawl to walking pace, there was nothing left. I felt really rather sick. I continued the walk warm down and wa shappy to be home and showered.
In all fairness, I've been feeling rough for the past couple of days, so probably should have deferred a day a so, but its done.
The question now then, as I failed to complete the last interval (by around 10 seconds) should i repeat this one again or still move on to week 3?
I personally think it depends how the rest of your runs have been. If you are going great guns I would rest and get better and move on. If though the last few runs have been a major struggle I would just redo for the sake of your confidence. I am sure there will be people along to remind you 10 seconds is not a fail.
Hey Stephen. Sounds like we've both had crappy runs today (see my post). Im happy to blame it on some strange lunar activity/ climatic force that we knew/know nothing about, and chalk it up to experience, if you're ok with that?! Joking aside though, you did a damn site better than me today. You carried on and finished (I told Laura to bugger off and just went home!), so well done for that. And 10 seconds does not, in any way, constitute a fail! I agree with realfoodieclub in that, if this run was a bit of an anomaly, then rest up tomorrow, ready to plough on through with the programme on Tuesday. If however you are struggling, then there's no harm (or shame) in doing the run again and seeing how you get on this time. Just make sure you get out there again soon and exorcise those niggling demons of doubt. I plan to and will be thinking of you doing the same, so please let us know how you get on...
Just remember that C25k is a training plan, and you are the boss, not Laura. Nobody is going to deny you the right to claim graduate status because you walked for ten seconds. You've been going well up to now, so I would carry onto the next run. There is no shame in repeating a run if you are struggling though. If you are under the weather, tired or maybe just feeling pressured then runs can go badly. I walked for twenty seconds the other day, on my usual 5k run, because I was knackered, having pushed too hard while recovering from a cold. Only the second time that has happened in six months of running.
Stephen, I support the above comments, if this was an anomoly then move on (whats 10 seconds between friends?) If you don't manage Wk3 R1 take a step back to Wk2. it's all about building stamina and confidence. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
I personally would say that if you get to your next run day and you're still thinking about whether or not you should redo the run then you should probably redo it.
Not because your body necessarily needs it but because your head and your confidence probably needs it! If you can't put those 10 seconds out of your mind then it's just going to play into your confidence as you start week 3 and it will probably mess up that run for you, if you have doubts about your readiness.
