Week 6 Run 2 - FAIL

So all was well for my run this morning . The sun was shining, it was nice and quiet. Perfect, I thought. Or maybe not.

No idea what went wrong today. The first 10 minutes felt sooooo long and I was virtually dragging what felt like concrete boots along. Finally got Michael telling me to stop and walk but when it came to the next 10 minutes of running, after about 2minutes I just couldn’t get my brain to continue moving those heavy legs. Managed to get Michael telling me I ONLY had 5 minutes to go but, by that point, nothing was making me finish. Fail. How annoying.

Not sure what went wrong today - was it that I was a bit later going out than usual, was it the couple of glasses of red last night (honestly it was a couple) or was this just my first blip of this programme??

So frustrating not to be able to finish this run when it’s the last interval run of the whole programme and when I’d been really enjoying it up until this morning!

Oh well, I’ll repeat on Tuesday and move on. 🙁

We don't like the 'F' word : )

I have been made to understand by the very supportive people people here that no run is a fail. The only fail would have been if you didn't get out there and run ! You just put more km in your legs and improved your stamina, how can that be a fail ? It may be less than you may have liked but it was still a run !

Ps, I can't drink before run days, it dehydrates me, heavy legs every time

Forgot to say, I made myself an analogy to help. If I were giving money to charity and one month I gave less because I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't feel my donation failed, that money would still be put to good use right ?

Your km today were the money. You would liked to give more but not possible today. It was still a useful run.

Wise words, thank you so much. I knew posting on here would pick me up. I think perhaps it’s just frustration at not getting through that run as I was very much looking forward to the continuous runs from then on.

Feel better about it now and you’re totally right, getting out and moving is all progress. I wasn’t doing any of that 6 weeks or so ago. Today’s 4K distance wasn’t a fail - I just walked more than I had planned and I now have a determination for Tuesday to do this.

No more F word!!!! 😁

I had jo Whiley as my coach and she said some days you run like a gazelle and other days your legs are like lead and it’s so true. There doesn’t seem to be a reason why this happens but I do find that running really, really, slowly at the beginning does help.

Remember you beat all those staying at home on the sofa, so you’re a winner x

No gazelles for me today, that’s for sure. More like an elephant!

Thanks for the advice and I’ll put this one down to experience, not failure, and that gazelle will be back on Tuesday. If nothing else, the image of myself as a gazelle should provide amusement enough to keep going!!!

Don't be too hard on yourself. You still went out there and gave it your best shot. I struggled today and I went out an hour and a half later than usual. I nornally go out at 6am each run day but I didn't wake up until 7.... made a big difference to me - more people walking dogs on the lanes and cyclists out too. Found myself jostling for space and having to mark time to cross main road when it's nornally empty when I go out.

Red wine helps with stamina. Or at least that's what I tell myself :)

Hee hee. Sounds a bit like me as I normally go out in the 6am zone but was a good bit later today.

I like your thinking on the red wine, but perhaps will leave it only before the rest days in future.

Onwards to the next one which is bound to be better 🤞

No such word as fail on this forum! It was a practice for next time, which will be better! Usual stuff - stay hydrated and take it slow and I’m sure all will be well. And if it isn’t- well, you can never have too much practice can you?! Good luck!

Yup, put it down to practice. Next one will be fantastic and I’ll be wondering why on Earth I couldn’t complete this today. All good!
