No running for me this weekend, had injection in shoulder today, I hope it helps with the pain . Have a torn tendon, that's only hanging on by a thread . But guess what, can't have the op because I am 2 OLD. Apparently they don't operate after the age of 45 in Coventry

That's really grim and not right and you must be in so much pain which is so draining. I so hope the injection helps and you have a great weekend

:)

Did you not tell them you've paid your taxes all your working life which is more than someone of 45 would have paid!!! Really sorry to hear your in pain and being treated so badly. Hope the injection does spome good though.

Oh no! How horrid. Is it worth seeing if you can get it done at Warwick? Second opinion and all that?

Ouch! Did they say why exactly they don't do that operation on people over 45? Age is not a reason. A proper reason would be something like, for older people the outcome is usually better if the tendon is allowed to heal on it's own rather than being surgically repaired. But unless they say something like that I wouldn't accept it. If it were me I'd get back in touch with your GP (or the consultant you saw if possible) and ask them why, then maybe get a second opinion. If they give you a reason that sounds like it's all about cost-cutting I'd kick up a stink. Local MP for a start. Then if you still get fobbed off, local and national media. Then again, I'm a little on the bolshy side and don't like to take crap like this lying down; we've paid our taxes and National Insurance, and just because the bankers and politicians got us into this economical mess, we should not have to suffer because of it. Hmmph! Rant over :-P

Anyway, hope you feel better soon :-)

Agree with lilybeth - this seems a totally arbitrary decision. Unless backed up with hard clinical evidence that contraindicates the procedure after the age of 45 it's also discriminating on the grounds of age - that's against NHS policy and you should be able to fight it. Ask - via the PALS service if your trust has one - for copies of the clinical evidence that formed the basis of the age criteria.
