Week 5, run 3. My little story.

Somewhere down the line in this program I seem to have lost my mind !! Still on holiday by the sea, and the weather is awful, gale force wind, heavy rain, flooding and cold... and I still went out for my run !! :-D

I was really looking forward to this one.. (see I have lost my mind) more like I was looking forward to seeing how I coped with the solid 20 minute run, to see if I could actually do it, I really couldn't picture myself managing it at all. 5 or 8 minutes at a time is one thing but a whole 20 minutes is different.

So off I went, my hood toggled up tightly around my face, clinging onto my water bottle, my family in hysterics at me as I left the house into the rain and wind. It really was a gale, we are right on the seafront here, the rain was stinging against my legs. not pleasant, I headed into the town on my warm up walk looking for some shelter, it was a little better. I'm out on my own today, unsurprisingly. My sister has been coming with my this week, but for some reason she decided against it today. It has really helped me going out with my sister, helping keep my pace. So as I started to run, I felt myself going too fast quite a few times, I had to stop myself to keep it to that comfortable jog I have found recently. It was a bit of a knock to hear Laura say that's 5 minutes, I really thought it was much longer, I do seem to struggle a bit at the start of my run, that was probably my going too fast though, before id found my routine.

The rest of the run was great, after the first 5 minutes, time flew by.

Cars were flying past me soaking me in the puddles, but I didn't care, I was doing it and I knew that I was going to finish the 20 minutes easily. The last 30 seconds I started to get a pain in my left leg, just above my knee into my thigh, well it wasn't exactly a pain more of a tightness, going to Google and try find out what muscle this is, just to check I am not doing anything wrong technique wise. So anyway I did it the full 20 minutes. Chuffed to bits.

I think I may have a few days rest now though as I've been running every other day rather than the 3 times a week/ Been making the most of this free time being on holiday with work not getting in the way. My legs are a little sore/stiff just now, putting that down to the fact the holiday cottage has stairs, (lol not easy when you've lived in a bungalow for years) and the fact we've been walking miles and miles this week on holiday with the dogs and sightseeing etc etc AND the amount of running I've been doing, But all in all a great run. Over half way there now.

:-)

Yep, you've really lost the plot :D

The plot, that is, of everyone else's life and your own before C25K!

Good for you girl, enjoy the holiday rain and wind and puddles and scoffs of family members. Yours will be the last laugh when you graduate soon: fitter, stronger, healthier, de-stressed and even more chuffed than you are today! ;)

Notwithstanding, really hope you get a bit of sunshine before your hols are over - look forward to hearing how your next few runs to graduation go. Stay happy, Linda x

Thank you for your words of support Linda. You make a good point about the plot. The story has really taken quite a twist from the old stay at home me to the running in the rain nutter iv become... never saw that twist coming. Lol :-D

I missed this post, well done! Good on you for doing the 20 minute run in the rain and good to hear it went well. Looking at the weather report I may also be doing it in the rain. Argh! Hard enough getting out in the dark, let alone in the dark and rain!

Anyway, well done you, you're over half way through now. C :)

I have just read your inspiring post and take great heart from it. I am approaching my Run 3 (Week 5) this coming friday and I am very apprehensive about it. However having read your story, I feel that the preparation of the weeks up to this point will stand me in good stead.

It's supposed to be sunny so wish me luck!!
