Really noticed the difference.....

On friday, I did W5R3, 20 minutes with no problem. Last night I set off to do W6R1, and didnt make it past 4 minutes into the second run. Spent half an hour walking and mentally beating myself up - I couldnt understand why as I'd done 20 mins, so 8 shouldnt have been a problem.

Spent a while thinking about it, and realised.....

On friday, I did a short day in work, had a light lunch of pasta salad, and ran on a treadmill with 0 gradient. Over the weekend, I had a tummy bug, whih meant little restful sleep and not really anything to eat, then a busy day in work, skipped lunch, got home and went straight out for a run in the 'real world' - where there's hills, and headwinds.

Thinking about it, I really didn't set my self up for success.

Lesson learnt!!

This happened to me too, but on run two of week six, i really struggled, but like you i looked at the big picture, had busy day at work, not much to eat, wanted to do it before i ate in the evening, so was in a bit of a "get it out of the way" mood, did run three in my favourite sunday morning slot and it was fine, good luck with the rest of it, cant believe i am now in week seven!

It's good you've worked out what went wrong - though often it's hard to pin down what makes a run be a 'bad' one (though Laura says no such thing as a bad run unless you don't go out the door!).

If you use the tabs to find other blogs of this run, you'll find lots of people find it harder than the 20-minute one - strange but true!

Don't be too hard on yourself! I've found the 'stop-start' sessions in Week 5 and 6 much harder than the longer runs. I think it takes more stamina to do these, as you don't into a steady running pattern. Off to try my first attempt at the 25 minute run in Week 6 this morning.....wish me luck!
