Citalopram is a drug mainly used to treat depression. It’s from the from the ‘SSRI’ family of antidepressant drugs which work by increasing the amount of serotonin, a substance in the brain thought to maintain mental equilibrium. SSRIs usually take a few weeks to take full effect. Citalopram is also sometimes used to help with other problems like anxiety, panic or obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders and alcoholism.
