Endo and anxiety / palpitations

Hello girlies. I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and am also on Citalopram for anxiety but I feel like I get worse around my period. My heart is currently beating like it could come out my chest. Until recently, and after laparoscopic surgery and a coil fitting, I never had a regular cycle so never noticed this pattern. But for the last 2 months I’ve had 3 regular periods every 27/28 days. Today I am feeling super low and my heart is pounding. Anyone else feel like this?

hi Racheyt , I do experience the same. I always thought was related to the inflammation in my body, and a racing heart would happen because my body is trying to battle that.

I also suffer fron anxiety, which can increase the symptoms if you don't take control. Try to take some nice breaths, they say meditation can help, but I never managed to do that while in pain. It is important to tell your brain you're alright; this might be your body fighting the inflammation.

I don't have a medical view on this, if anyone else had?

Thanks. It does make sense. I am hoping to try the AIP diet to reduce inflammation and do less intense exercise and take it a little easier on myself.

Yes! Please ask your GP for a blood test. I was feeling like this and after having a full blood test it was discovered that I also had Grave’s disease ( Hypothyroidism).

Please double check as it is possible to have more than one hormonal, autoimmune disease causing havoc on the body.

I was place on beta blockers (Propanol) and now my heart no longer beats so loudly.

Hope this helps hun. Xx

I meant hyperthyroidism.

Hello Racheyt, sorry to read you are going through this. I agree with the post above that it's worth asking your GP for thyroid blood tests, and also ferritin (iron stores) if you haven't already had those checked? I realised that whenever I was getting palpitations it was because my ferritin was low (below 25). I wasn't offered iron tablets on the NHS because I was in the 'borderline' category not considered totally iron deficient, but I bought a low dose iron supplement and that helps so much, gave me more energy and stopped the palpitations. xx

My experience is a little different, but maybe you can get something from it. I am under cardiology due to ectopic heart beats and on beta blockers for it. However, I had a laparoscopy and endometrioma removal and ever since the op, I don't feel ectopic beats any more. I am waiting for a follow up appointment to tell cardiology. In short, it seems clear to me that endo can cause palpitations and electrical heart issues. Hopefully treating the endoscopy will help this for you.
