Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, 26 weeks

Does anyone have any ideas or tips as to what to do against the itchy skin especially during the night?

Taking antihistamines, freshly ground ginger diluted in water, pregnancy vitamins and extra vit. D Calcium and Magnesium. Applying a menthol and eucalyptus cream. Stopped the urso (as it makes my life unbearable with itch). Follow a light and low fat diet.

Any ideas from the rest of you will be very welcome. I wonder how on earth I will survive until 37 weeks or at least until baby is safe to be born.

Thank you in advance.

i went through an extremely itchy sickly pregnancy... the baby is now 18 and at university... so hang on in there...

he was delivered at 35 weeks but was completely healthy but small... because I was ill.

not many tips but keep your feet cool... even cold.. don't wear socks... clogs are a good choice as part of the foot is uncovered. pull the duvet up off your feet before you try and sleep.

have natural materials for clothing and bedding and somehow I found that heloed. the rest you seem to already be doing.

are you hot at night???

best wishes cazer.

Thanks very much.

I already do the above in a way. We have switched to a summer duvet too. I'm cool without feeling cold.

I do normally like it hot but now it is different. Can't say that I have been hot.

Thanks for your encouragement. I'm sorry it was so bad for you too. 35 weeks isn't too bad.

My first was at 31 weeks. All well and without a problem thanks to the cortisone injections I had.

Take care

First You should ask your doctor to see if you can even try these Creams like Desonate® (desonide) Gel 0.05%,, Triamcinolone cream is a topical steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling,, that’s i what I use daily . There are several antihistamines (it seems like I get immune to the medication after taking it for awhile so I switch) I am currently using Atarax (hydroxyzine) at night along with ketoconazole as a body shampoo sometimes, nothing seems to stop it totally the creams seem to work best but at night it’s uncomfortable to sleep with so the atarax helps best for me it can help relax you an maybe go to sleep. I have Cirrhosis and i am guy so you ask your doctor what is best for your baby and you. I can’t remember what it was I rub my wife’s with , but I’ll ask if I ever she them again , on second thought I’ll ask my daughter in law.

Good luck

Thank you very much for your reply. I have good and bad days and nights. A diet rich in soluble fibre seems to be a good idea along with all else. I will make a note of the medications you suggested and see what my Health professionals say.

Is ketoconazole an ingredient of a certain shampoo?

Take care and all the best to you.
