Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Thanks both. Thankfully it was sorted by 10 so I managed a pleasant (not) parkrun along the upgraded coastal path down the other side of Portsea Island - almost made up for it!
Just back from parkrun. I ran this morning at my local parkrun and volunteered as the 29 minute pacer. There was a really good crowd, about 160 or so at a guess. A good few of the runners were wearing their tops from running the Dublin City Marathon last weekend. It was a beautiful mild Autumn morning, nil wind and perfectly still. I ran at a lovely comfortable pace and finished in a time of 28:55. Happy running everyone.
I have average pace on my running watch, so all I had to do was run at an average pace of 5:48 minutes per kilometre. My official time is just in and it was 28:56. Damn, I was 4 seconds out. 😁
I think that's still very clever, I've started doing short runs while out walking but you'd all laugh at my times, it's actually slower than walking and even my walking has slowed down loads....but I'm hopeful of getting back to parkrun before long. Actually, average pace might be more helpful for me, I'll change my settings
It just takes time to build it back up again. Last year I was struggling to run 5K without walking breaks. Patience and time and you’ll be flying again.
We went to Three Brooks this morning. First time here and really enjoyed it. Nice course-basically out and back on a flat path along a little brook. I ran yesterday and still felt that in my legs so took it super easy. Apart from a bit of a pick up for the finish, I wasn’t out of breath at any point. It was fun looking at the Halloween costumes-lots of people had dressed up. My favourite was two skeletons running with an another skeleton on a stretcher. It’s not often you get overtaken by a group like that! Chilled finish time reflecting a very chilled effort-thought my watch would hate it but my VO2 max has finally ticked up a point and I’m a hair’s breadth off sneaking into “superior”. That was a really nice surprise at the end!
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to average a oarkrun a month-today that goal got ticked off with parkrun number 12! We celebrated with a Starbucks breakfast and a bonus blueberry muffin.
Happy parkrun day parkrunners, volunteers and park walkers!
Roberts Park parkrun Last two times I've gotten a pb this morning wasn't expecting a great time and in fact didn't feel like a great run, the parkrun started and the glitchy NRC app stopped 😢 well carry on I did no idea about times and was shocked when I got 28.58 the training and hard work is paying off .I'm so happy with this time and a time I didn't think I'd ever get not so long ago
Good afternoon Damien and other parkrunners, this morning I ran my 127th parkrun at Drumpellier parkrun (#29 there) in a time of exactly 32 minutes with a +60% age grading of 62.76%, I always like getting a +60% age grading, the weather was cloudy but dry, no wind, the loch along the side of the parkrun was dead calm with the reflection of the trees showing like a mirror, the temperature was 10C, a good run and at the finishing line I ate two pieces of cake 😄
Thanks Dexy5, there is a photo and video on the Drumpellier parkrun Facebook page, in the video of all the runners I am seen running at 57 seconds into the video wearing my parkrun T Shirt and of course beard ✅🏃
It is a beautiful place to run or walk, apart from the parkrun yesterday there was another event taking place at 10am with hundreds of other runners on a slightly different 5K course as the parkrun .
I don’t know what my run was this morning! Definitely a “not” park run though. It was my first time out with my new running watch, which is a tad different to my now resting Garmin 35. I ran along with my watch on left wrist and owners manual tucked into my right glove. Just to add to the fun, I switched on an NRC interval run too, but ignored the recovery pace bits.
The watch chose a distance and target time for me; it is possible to bypass this but I haven’t learned how yet! The first steady 500 metres prompted an alert which said I wouldn’t reach target at that pace! Cheek….anyway, I ran on and completed 6.75k in 42:37 (which is what I wanted to do anyway) and managed to run more quickly than the watch specified average pace (although I thought I had failed, until I realised that above the white line was faster than target!). I also managed to save the run ..it was touch and go between “save” and “delete”. I am going to have to show this watch who is boss! Best 5k ?31.40 which was ok for running in a new watch. Lovely to see so many runners out in the woods this morning; more women than men too.🙂
🙂 Its full potential is beyond mine! Just record the distance I want to run and the pace I achieve and show the stuff I got from my 35, that will be fine. It will succumb in the end!!🤓
Good run you BC66, 6.75K in 42.37 is excellent, BEFORE parkrun today and AFTER it , not counting the actual parkrunners I saw many other runners enjoying their Saturday morning run, about even between men and women, even at parkrun there were many runners running in the opposite direction, of course they weren't official park runners.
I think that it is going to take a while JP. There are videos, but the ones I have seen so far involve rapid speech and lightning fast fingers. All I need to do is set the distance; my legs will sort the rest out.
I keep looking at the instructions! Part of the problem is that there are 5 buttons to press and so many options. I will stick at it. Long run tomorrow; setting that up will be the real test.
Hello damienair and runners, another crack sparrow alarm for us this morning as I, UpTheStanley and Oldgirlruns headed off to the beautiful New Forest to do Brockenhurst parkrun. It was a single undulating route through the. trees, with a short there and back insert. After the the first few minutes it opened up and I could run at my own pace most of the way. I loved the downhill parts but walked a lot of the uphill parts. I chatted to some of the mainly local runners along the way and took in the beautiful autumn colours. There was going to be no PB today but I loved being there . 37.33 and finished in 200th place. Afterwards, we headed for the local village of Burley, famous for covens of witches, and competed with cyclists for places in the many cafes for a New Forest breakfast.
We had a bit of a running club meet up at Market Rasen today. I started with a couple of ladies I run with regularly, but I think the competitive spirit kicked in. Result - Genie got a parkrun PB, Emma got a Market Rasen PB and I came in a full minute faster than last week 😃And there was cake 🍰
A bit late posting again damienair but it was another tourist day today. Dexy5 and UpTheStanley asked me if I’d like to join them in a foray into the New Forest. Having ascertained there were no bears in this particular forest I naturally said count me in! It’s a beautiful trail through the trees and at the moment the colours are gorgeous although we didn’t get the full effect on this rather gloomy morning. I was right at the back today but didn’t mind as it gave me the opportunity for a good chat with the tail walker! We went into Burley afterwards and found a very nice cafe for our full English breakfast, watching ponies go past the window as we ate. Further wandering in the forest was curtailed by the weather so it was back in the car and home but for my 94th parkrun and a time of 52:09, it was definitely worth the early start!
Morning guys, a late posting for me and I haven’t even read through the other ones yet which I like to do. That’s tomorrow’s job. 😀
We’re in Devon for a whole family long weekend. All the kids, all the partners (except our son’s new beau who has yet to be introduced to the Cheeky Household -hope she’s prepared), 3 grandchildren and Flossie. ❤️ 🐕
Jenny, baby and I walked down to Teignmouth Promenade PR. I did it back in the summer on a hot day. Yesterday was fairly mild and all of a sudden very windy, having been calm as anything the last few days. No matter, it was character building with the buggy in the headwind! 💨 My Strava only said 16.5mph. I’m not convinced. 😅
This week we Jeffed 2:1, again doing 2 sets each with the buggy. If the weather behaves we’ll run continuously next weekend, swapping every so often.
That sounds like a lot of fun cheeky! I was the same last weekend - I was glad to get home for a rest and the quiet! I’m not used to the noise small people make when they get together!
Oh crikey, I am late! Good morning Damien and all! Sorry, been feeling sorry for myself after the Covid/flu jab, so just curled up on the sofa after parkrun yesterday.
Katnap and I were RDing yesterday with eldest kitten Funnel Managing. It’s been a tricky week getting volunteers due to half term. Thankfully they came up good in the end but we had a few new volunteers - eldest kitten was a great help with teaching some of them the ropes. We also had two completely new volunteers on Finish Tokens but they did a great job despite us having 400+ participants.
Katnap surprised everyone at the start by starting almost on time. He’s kicking himself as he was 30 seconds over! We had at least 30-40 people turn up as it all started, having to chase the tail - they are so used to us being late. Amazingly the first runner in was one of them! Lesson to learn - always get there for 8.45 so you don’t miss the briefing - there could be something important that you’ve not heard before.
Well done Katz family. I think your ED is famous for his long briefings but perhaps a few people may learn to get there earlier.
We changed our parkrun start a year ago, but we still have people going to the old location, so I would also add - check the parkrun event website before setting off for a different event, as there is lots of important information on there and things may have changed since you were last there.
