Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good morning Damien, no parkrun for me either, this morning I walked 3K in preparation for tomorrow's "Tim's Run"I intend to run my first full Half Marathon starting at 8am.
Thanks Week7, of course I will smile, starting at 8am, judging by that almost HM I ran on Wednesday 2nd November I hope to complete it by around 10.50.😊Tomorrow I won't be submitting the first 5K split as my 129th (not) parkrun as I do on a Wednesday, tomorrow is a very special run, I will run that as a 5K this Wednesday.
Nor me damienair as I have yet another cold and a blocked ear. 😩☹️ The moment the grandchildren started sneezing I knew I’d be in trouble!
Shame, as I’d hoped to do Ashton Court today. Instead I marshalled at Eastville with Flossie, and Jenny ran. Not sure of her official time yet, but she got ‘29 something’ after not running since my 100th three weeks ago. She was pleased, I had fun, so a nice morning for us. 😀
Tim’s run tomorrow, and I plan on a leisurely 10k somewhere. ❤️
What a lovely photo of Flossie CC, so she "bark marshalled" with you at Eastville parkrun this morning, good luck for your 10K tomorrow as 'Tim's Run', that somewhere could be on that common you ran around 40 times when you ran a half marathon, speaking of which I am going to run tomorrow at 8am as ".Tims Run"
Thanks Al! Yes she Bark Marshalled! I love that. 😅
Hmm, not sure I fancy running Tim’s run on the common though. It’s rained so much this week and it would be like running on a soggy mattress! Slogging out those HMs up there have taught me a thing or two!! I have a couple more routes to choose from though. 🙏🏻
Good luck on your run tomorrow. I’ll be heading out around the same time as you. 😀
I don’t think it will TC - if it does I’ll be beyond livid. 🙄 No sore throat this time, just really stuffy, so I’m hoping it’ll be on its merry way before long. 🤞🤞🤞
Good morning Damien and all, no parkrun for me today either or even a non parkrun which is what I usually do when not working on Saturday, I woke with particularly itchy eyes and nose, took an antihistamine and went straight back to sleep, tomorrow though in memory of Tim
Good morning Damien and all. I was of half a mind to parkwalk today as I’m a bit chesty at the moment and I’ve got a HM planned for Tim tomorrow but heh ho, you know me…
We had an athletics club takeover and Katnap bravely RD’d. It was a bit more chaotic than usual but we all got round ok. Plus we had pacers which was great! I was going to follow the 35 minuter, then the 32 minuter then I passed the 30 minuter about a km before the end, so I was dead chuffed with a sub 30 after how I’d been feeling.
Happy running tomorrow everyone, we’ll do Tim proud 👍💪👍👍
I know cheeky! I blame the weather, we never know what to wear because it keeps changing and then we get soaked, and cold. Mine just needs a very large whiskey 🥃 , that usually does the trick (for a couple of hours anyway 😅). I was beginning to wonder if my speedy days were behind me but today cheered me up 😀 Katnap has spent all afternoon sorting the results and sticking things on Facebook… it really has been a mega RD day, I hope he gets the rest of the year off!
Your speedy days are definitely returning TC! Mine never arrived in the first place! 😅
What with the weather and grandsons, I foresee plenty more sniffles coming my way this winter. Hot toddies a’plenty 🥃 Hope yours doesn’t come to anything. 🤞
One of our longstanding RDs stood down today after several years. She said she’d had enough and wants to just enjoy running for fun! Katnap deserves an extra medal for all his efforts! 🏅
He sure does. I spotted yesterday that I’d only done 25 runs this year despite going nearly every week, so I hate to think what Katnap’s ratio is. I don’t blame your RD for stepping down. One of the reasons why we had the athletics club involved this week was to get more of them to volunteer.
The whiskey seems to have done the job on my chestiness today thankfully. Lurgies seem to travel with small kids don’t they? Hopefully you’ll get more resilient to them but they are the gift that keeps giving! 🤧
As for speedies coming back… I treated myself to some new shoes, they are very bouncy and have a nylon plate. I shall be trying them out over the next few days and I’m hoping they’re as good as everyone says they are 🤞
Yes, thankfully! Somehow my fastest parkrun since May, wore my Revels so my Achilles isn’t complaining as much either. Looking forward to trying out an NRC run with my new speedy shoes too Dexy 👍 (a bit of Black Friday retail therapy).
As I've read from a few others who struggle to get out of bed in the dark these days, I don't feel so bad anymore about not making the official parkrun (again). I did run through a park mid-morning with gorgeous sunshine on the fall leaves. It was also my Tim's run.
Here's a photo from my cool down along the channel leading to/from the Stadtwald in Cologne, Germany ("city forest" - quite imaginative name 😉).
Keep running, keep smiling!
Lots of leaves along an artificial channel that is lined by trees.
Hi Damien and all. Tourism again for me at Queen Elizabeth Country Park parkrun. Very hilly, grassy and muddy - and me with my road shoes 🙈. I really must get trail shoes (keep saying that) but I took it slowly and carefully and finished in just over 39 minutes without falling over or getting too muddy. Met up with a group of people I had met a few weeks ago at Victoria Dock pr. Runners all seem to be a lovely friendly bunch and we had breakfast and coffee together afterwards. Great morning 😊
So glad to hear you survived in your road shoes Mudita11 ! I was thinking of you after all the rain this week. Mind you, we had half the beach on our prom parkrun this morning.
I saw the Facebook pic of all the pebbles on the prom 😱. QE was great but I really did have to go slowly on the muddy/grassy bits. The non muddy/grassy bits were steep upward hills! I did enjoy it though
Yes we’ve done it during the week, but every time we’ve planned a parkrun visit it has been cancelled due to named storms or injury. Glad you met your new found friends.
Yesterday evening was work's Christmas party (yes, it's always a little early). Work was paying. It was a sit down meal at a fancy hotel and there was an open bar. I moderated my intake knowing I'd be running today, but still had way more than I'd normally have on a Friday evening.
This morning it took a lot of willpower to shift me out of my pit. My watch was saying, "Don't you even dare to run today! Just look at that HRV value, a good 10 points lower than your average. And your sleep duration and quality don't bear looking at."
I kitted up appropriate to the weather. It was overcast, damp and raw. Two long sleeved layers, trail leggings, peaked cap and gloves.
A loo visit, a mug of coffee, a shouted goodbye to Herself, and I'm off. I arrive with a couple of minutes to spare, with a few of the regulars saying "We've been waiting for you."
The Run Director (the son of the lady to the right of the photo) was doing his second stint at RD, and started us a little late.
As usual, I held back for the first quarter lap, just to get the legs moving. There were a few kids there today: one girl and four boys. That's unusual, especially as the numbers taking part today were a little down on normal.
Once I felt more confident my legs were working properly, I started to increase the pace a little and gradually move up through the pack.
I continue on, bidding other park users a "Good morning" and joking with the marshals. As I completed my second lap of four I asked, "If I stop now will it count as a 25 instead?" The reply was a firm no and that I should keep going.
As I completed the third lap, the first finisher was just coming in (22:05). That final lap was when I really felt the excesses of the previous evening, but I still had that little bit left to pick up the pace a little at the very end.
I hung about afterwards taking photos of a couple of other runners crossing the finish and sharing those photos with them, then chatting. The lady in the middle of the photo lives in Bideford Devon but comes here occasionally to visit her mum, and always comes to parkrun when she does.
People started to disperse and there were only the parkwalk and tailwalkers left to come in. I started to get cold, so bid my farewell to the marshals and went on my way to top up the car and get some more lebkuchen from Lidl.
About half an hour later my result pinged up: 24th out of 51 with a time of 28:48.
Nowhere near my PB. I'm just happy to have completed my fiftieth parkrun.
Hello everyone, I also managed to pick up a cold this week so knew it wasn’t going to be a PB parkrun.
Then there was lots of WhatsApp activity on the Southsea core team chat. We’ve had high tides and strong southerly winds so not only was there lots of seaweed, sand and pebbles on the parkrun course, the prom wall edges had collapsed onto the beach. The City Council had done a brilliant job clearing and repairing on Friday, but more followed overnight.
We’d planned a Tim’s Run for the Southsea Motley crew (posted on the bridge forum) and JonathanP exchanged his puddle course for the pebbles to join us. UpTheStanley abandoned his run to marshal the stoney portion and as Coddfish is still not able to participate due to ongoing cancer treatments , she helped out with barcode scanning.
We ran or volunteered, and we smiled, even in the 30 mph wind.
That’s a lovely photo 😃. Hope your cold goes away quickly. Mr Mudita has a stinker of a cold atm so I’m trying to stay out of his way as much as possible 🤣
Oh blimey, we really are all crook aren’t we? I know exactly where mine is from: getting soaked on the way home from work and then getting soaked on the way to get a massage and having to put damp clothes back on. My coat is permanently damp at the moment. Wishing you better very soon Sandie 🤗
Hi Damien and everyone 👋🏻 No park run for me this morning - my son was taking part in a UK martial arts tournament and came home with two silver and a bronze medal.
I will be lacing up the trainers and getting out ‘alone’ for my ‘Tim run’ tomorrow - just me and my thoughts.
I can't believe that my last Parkrun was on 30th July!
I got up just after 8.00 but my husband didn't want to run as he hadn't slept well. Never mind, found an NRC guided run and a great BBC Sounds Indie Forever playlist and off I went.
The grass in the park was pretty wet and my shoes were soaked through by the time I reached the smaller than normal group of people at the meeting place. We usually have around 100 but there were only 63 today. The RD warned us that the course was slippery and muddy in places (surprise) then off we went.
As usual it seemed everyone was quicker than me but I wasn't last Managed to overtake a few people along the way. I finished 51st, so about normal for me.
Really good to be back in my routine, it was a very busy summer. I might volunteer for the next couple of weeks as I've now run two more than my husband and this will allow him to catch up.
I did, but he only ran 45 before I started, and volunteered whenever he was playing hockey. Now he’s an RD and co-ED So I get to run more than him and he’s got 93 volunteer credits to his name.
I ran PR again and got well under 45 minutes (Garmin). I have not done that for ages. I finally seem to have turned a corner. Hopefully next week, my official PR time will also be under 45 minutes. It might be easier if I didn't start right at the back!Hope all the sickly fellow virtual runners here are back in good health soon.
