How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.

Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Did my 29th Park Run this morning; didn't really enjoy it today; found it a bit hard. But next week on to my 30th. AND will be aged 79 in two months.Just started c25k Sep 2018.

Good luck to everyone especially the new starters.

Very well done. It’s still a nice way to kick off the weekend even if it was a tough one.

Hi damienair & (not) park runners, and park runners,

No park run today or any running for that matter as we’re all in lockdown due to that awful virus.

1 hubby down and 5 boys down! The mummy is still virus free but can’t run due to close contact rules here which doesn’t feel like a positive 🤣

Happy running everyone ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Ah no. Hope everyone is doing OK.

What a shame. Just when WA gets it’s freedom back, your family loses it again. Well done for staying Covid free with 6 positives in the house though. Long may it last.

It’s the opposite of freedom 😷 but we couldn’t stay virus free forever x

Oh no RW, hence no photo? Amazing how a family can be split like this. Maybe you’ll have a mild version of it (just for the day so you’re not trapped too long) after they’ve all recovered and they can all look after you?Hope they all recover well xxx

Thanks TailChaser 😍 I’m hoping for a positive soon to make isolation count. Every-time, someone tested positive my 7 day close contact reset so I will be the longest person in isolation in our family. 🤯 So hard to not just go for a run.

Here’s me on the Ist January full of hope that I would run 2022 km in a year 🤣
TailChaser profile image

No! That really isn’t fair. You definitely deserve to have some sort of payback for this! However, there is still plenty of time to get that 2022km 💪🤞🤞

Just found out there’s no reset on the original 7days so I’m free to leave as I’m still testing negative.

Going running tomorrow 😍

I stayed local this morning and ran at my local parkrun in Navan. It was lovely to meet some familiar faces. Today my aim was to relax, enjoy the run and just bimble along at a nice comfortable pace. I managed to run it all, even the 3 hills and finished in a time of 31:43. Home now after having a shower and I’m tucking into a pancake and a coffee. Happy weekend everyone.

Morning PR folk!

I toyed with going to Ashton Court this morning but thought better of it due to running in the Burghley 7 miler tomorrow. So, flat as a pancake Marine Parade it was. No Jenny this week as she’s in London, so I took Flossie for company and threw the ball for her on the beach before popping her in the car while I ran. But hello, now it’s past March 1st it’s £6 to park! 😱

It was a good run. I toddled along at a comfortable pace until I could see the funnel, when I treated myself to a rather fun sprint finish. I left a woman for dust who’d been Jeffing and thus leapfrogging me for the entire 5k - I’m hoping she was wondering how the trundler had it in her! 😅

27 seconds quicker than my last time there, and I officially came in at 35:15 (35:35 Garmin - I couldn’t work that one out!)

Home for a hungry 3 hot crossed buns and getting ready to drive to Lincoln in readiness for tomorrow. Woohoo! 👏👏👏

Good morning Damien, considering that I started my 38th parkrun near the back of the 143 runners at Drumpellier Parkrun and with my ankle still a little sore I was quite pleased with my run this morning, I finished in 111th place in a time of 33.24, my ankle only got sore in the last 50 metres but isn't too bad now, I thought I would have finished in around 35 or 36 minutes so I am quite happy with 33.24, it was the first time I ran wearing my new waterproof jacket 🧥 which I got at Christmas as a present, the weather this morning was a bit wet with showers

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Well done Al, look after that ankle .

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

Thanks Dexy, ankle almost better, 16.59 was the time of the runner who came first at Drumpellier Parkrun this morning, I saw this runner as I was about to run my second lap, he turned right to run the last 200 metres whereas I had to turn left for another lap, unlike Dunfermline parkrun which is 3 laps, Drumpellier is only two laps, its not often that I see a runner lapping me at Drumpellier, 16.59 is fast, by the time I am on my second lap, I don't see any fast runner, whereas at Dunfermline I often see runners lapping me when I am on lap two and they are on lap three.. 😊 🏃🏾 👍

Rennur profile image
RennurGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

At least you are not lapped on the first lap like I was a few weeks ago!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toRennur

O dear, being lapped on the first of a three lap course must be🤣 my AVERAGE time on that 3 lap course since my first parkrun there is around 33.30, I notice from the results that the sub 28 minute runners lap me around the end of my second lap, the record for that course is around 16 minutes, I was running that day, he whizzed past me just as was beginning my second lap, however, at the other end regarding time, I notice that I lap +40 minute runners, usually around the end of my third lap, of course it depends on which parkrun you go to.

Next time you're in Tooting you can wave to me on your third (my second) lap.

Today I took mum (getfitordietrying) along to her first ever parkrun at South manchester around platt fields park. She'd asked me to look for a nice flat course for her and I'd done this one twice before so knew it would be perfect. I was taking mine nice and steady but mum got herself a new 5k pb of 35:08 which is absolutely flying considering her graded score was over 62%! Higher than I've ever got! 33 parkruns done for me now.

Parkrun number 24 for me today. Last week I'd planned to run in Pwllheli, but that was cancelled, so I ran round the lanes around Aberdaron.

Today was my usual haunt of Chadderton Hall Park.

The morning started with rain, but it cleared about 8.30am and the sun came out. I arrived at the park at about 8.55am and had a brief chat with some of the regulars just before the Run Director's speech.

Two of the ladies were discussing what they ate before going out for a run. The lady who had been guide runner for the partially sighted guy last week was describing how he'd run in short sprints and then have to walk for a bit because he'd tired himself out.

And then we were off. I got stuck behind some slower runners for the first half lap. This was probably a good thing as it allowed time for my legs to warm up a bit.

I then steadily worked my way up the field over the subsequent laps. Many folks had zoomed off at the start and the course got the better of them by the second lap. I didn't get lapped this week, which was unusual.

I found a little spurt of speed as I was approaching the finish line, and overtook someone in the last 50m, which meant I'd paced myself well throughout.

There were several juniors running today, including one lad who was doing his 50th parkrun.

I hung around chatting until the last finisher before the tail walkers came in. Her husband had done three laps (out of four) today and was proud of himself for doing so.

Then the breeze came and I was starting to get chilled, so I bid my farewells and walked back to my car.

I finished in 28'45" today (a minute slower than my PB), and came 15 out of a field of 60.

Tomorrow I'm planning a long run (over 20km).

Hello damienair and VRBs, with Mr & Mrs Coddfish and Oldgirlruns otherwise engaged this weekend I was going to be at Southsea on my own, so I contacted JonathanP and arranged to meet up at Portsmouth Lakeside for a change. Then UpTheStanley had his hockey cancelled so he could come too.

We had a lot of rain yesterday so the path south of the lake was a mass of muddy puddles. Luckily we had been warned by JP that trail shoes and a pair of trainers to change into for the cafe were required . It was so good to see him again on his home turf. The RD warned us that we have to run straight through the puddles for the safety of others but fortunately at my speed the runners are more spread out so I was able to go around some of the really deep ones. I know , I’m a bit girly when it comes to getting muddy.

I had to do a bit of jeffng on the return but when I got to the homeward straight, with a little(?) encouragement by JP and UTS, I sprinted for the finish passing 2 runners in the process. What fun.

There was a great atmosphere there as the Portsmouth Joggers Running Club had their C25k graduation run there today and they were well supported by the club runners.

No results yet but it was just under 36 mins on Garmin.

Next week is the big 100, so if anyone is visiting Southsea, wear a milestone T-shirt and I’ll be the one with the balloon, whatever the weather.

A lovely sunny morning here for parkrun #8 for me. This week we had a large number of visually impaired runners and guides out for the parkrun. Its great to see how inclusive parkrun is and how each week I learn something new.

My run was OK and the really unusual thing was that I was overtaken by a chap who was running and juggling 3 balls at the same time! I've never come across anything like that before. This must take some doing. I finished in an official time of 23:01 - didn't want to push too much as I have something coming up soon...

Good afternoon Damien and all! Just had our bacon butties and putting my feet up before the day continues.

Tailwalking today. There were 4 of us in the end as my friend came to experience her first parkrun (mainly in the hope of inspiring her daughter) as I said I’d be walking it, and then Shake-and-run and I were joined by the lady who did the First Time Briefing.

First time i’ve ever done it, mainly because i love to run it and secondly, I hate walking slowly because I have no patience! It was actually a reasonable pace and we were all done within 54 minutes. My friend’s daughter seemed to enjoy it so I am really hoping she’ll be back 🤞

Now I’m getting my bits and pieces together ready for tomorrow’s race. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather behaves but I have something for all eventualities.

Have a lovely runny week everyone 👏👏👏

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

I think you’re right there Dexy. We are still down about 50-60 runners on pre-covid times and there definitely isn’t as many in the 40+ minutes. Another way of looking at that are the numbers in the age categories, particularly for the ladies, for example, this week at 54 minutes (and last) I was 12th in my age category, last week on 27:26 I was 7th. There should have been more than 5 in that gap. I do hope they come back. Maybe when it warms up?

Hello all! Back in the UK after our Spanish tour and Market Rasen for what I was convinced was my 47th parkrun. I don’t usually do parkrun the day before a race, but as we go to Canada skiing on 2 April, the timing was perfect for my 50th parkrun on Easter Saturday. Then my result came through and it said it was my 46th. Aaargh 😤😭😡 Fine and dry but with a really cold 20mph wind which hurt my ears. Official time 32.31. History was made at the parkrun I ran this morning, guess what, Drumpellier Parkrun started 90 seconds before 9.30, (parkruns in Scotland and Ireland start 30 minutes later than England and Wales) I have never known that to happen before, quite a contrast from last week when Dunfermline parkrun started at 9.34.

Hi Parkrunners, 14th for me today. It was a tale of two halves depending on which direction I was running! Running south was very tough, going into a head wind. Felt like running through treacle! Heading north (and downhill) was lovely- wind pushing me forward and the sun on my face! Slightly smaller crowd at Lowestoft today compared to usual. 294 across the finish line and I was 266th at a time of 37:20, which given the windy conditions, I was fairly happy with!

Hi everyone and thank you damienair Woke bright and early to sunshine so felt very enthusiastic about Parkrun. I decided to do a NRC 5k guided run for a change so told husband to run on ahead. Long story short, he did it in 32:35, a PB, 63rd while I came in 90th at 38:11, which is a pretty good time for me.

He teased me that a mum with a pushchair beat me but I pointed out (a) it's not a race and (b) she's probably 40 years younger than me. I was pleased because there was a woman about my age just ahead of me the whole way who came in 8 seconds after me (sorry, but you know how it is).NRC measures 5km differently to Parkrun so I had to do and extra 100m to end the workout but on a morning like this I didn't really mind.

Talking about ladies with prams or buggies OBK, there is a lady who runs at various parkruns in Central Scotland with a buggy very often in sub 20 minutes, when she was 6 months pregnant with the child she now pushes in a buggy she ran at parkrun in around 18 minutes, wow.
