Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & park runners, and (not) park runners,
Just hubby & no.2 son for Park run. I did a longer steady 90minute run.
No.2 son has been loving his running. He has run with our club twice, a slow dog jog with me and our terrier & a trail run this week at a local salt lake. He has also been picking up tips on his running form from an ultra runner in our club & was keen to test them out today.
22:02 for him & 25:12 for the Dad.
I donβt think we are catching him now at Park run. My hubby told me he was bounding along our grass section waving as he passed, and he ran back after he finished, so he could run over the finish line with his Dad!
Happy park running everyone! β€οΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Well done on your 90 minute run and well done too to Son and Hubby. Great running. That is a great photo of your Son, he looks like a runner, it could be on the cover of a running magazine. He is a good looking boy. Happy Easter.
I bet heβs got that long, lolloping gait that just bounces him along! Good on him, heβs supposed to beat his dad anyway! Have a lovely Easter π£ x
Happy Easter everybody! I was back to Market Rasen today, after our ski trip to Canada, for my 49th parkrun. Felt quite tough after a 2 week break (sadly skiing doesnβt seem to help you run better βΉοΈ) but an official time of 32.06, which is ok. The biggie next week and hoping to meet up with Shake-and-run and TailChaser π€π€ Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!
Good afternoon Damien and a very Happy Easter to you and your family. This morning I ran my 41st parkrun(25th at Dunfermline) in a time of 33:17, there were plenty of runner's pushing buggies today but not many dogs, the weather was cloudy but dry, temperature 12C. Tomorrow I will start to eat the many Easter eggs and Easter chocolate bunnies I have been given.
I have just noticed your own post on your parkrun at Bricksfield, sorry about you feeling exhausted after 2K, I am sure it was due to you getting Covid recently , a big congratulations to Oisins time of 26.58. I just hope that you get back to running without any effects from Covid soon.
Well done Al, not long before your 50 shirt π I noticed the number of dogs has dropped considerably since the new rules have come in. Happy Easter to you.
Thank you TailChaser and have a Happy Easter, this morning I wore my 25 T shirt, the new rules about dogs may have put some people off running, only 115 ran today, there are usually around 140/160 running at Dunfermline parkrun, perhaps some are away for a Easter break.
Lol TailChaser, I was at the wrong parkrun this morning, I intend to run at a new parkrun in a few weeks time, at that parkrun this morning all the runners were given a small Easter Egg, this new parkrun, Springburn is in a park in the City of Glasgow about 12 miles from where I live, I will go to Springburn by train, that will be the first time that I have travelled by train to parkrun, on 14th May Springburn celebrates its 4th birthday.
Well done AlMorr great time again. Yes temperature not dry good here, hopefully better tomorrow for my walk. Happy Easter donβt sicken yourself of your Easter eggs.
Happy Easter to you Doris8, my Sunday morning walk tomorrow will be around 10K, some of it is on the same route as an annual 21K Trail Half Marathon course which takes place at the end of October, I was a spectator in 2019 when it was last run, some of it is on very steep hills and through forests, but the part I'll be walking tomorrow is only once up a steep hill which on a clear day looking west and east I can see almost 50 miles from Fife in the east to the Isle of Arran in the west.
I ran at a parkrun in Dublin this morning called Brickfields parkrun. It was in a small city park and was a 4 lap course. I was joined this morning by my almost 13 year old Son Oisin. I really struggled again today. I feel exhausted after 2K, my chest gets tight and my legs feel really heavy. I had to take a couple of walking breaks. Covid is still affecting me I think. My finish time was 33:46. Oisin was miles ahead of me and he ran a time of 26:58.Onwards and upwards.
Good on you for doing it Damien, Iβm sure it will help with your recovery. I was chatting to one of our parkrunners today whoβs just recovered from it. She ran a couple of weeks ago and said exactly the same as you but sheβs now getting back to her normal times and it looks much easier for her. Well done to Oisin, heβs doing super!! πππ
I had that same conversation with someone else at our ParkRun, they report almost the same things you do. I'm sure it's a case of taking it week by week and not putting pressure on yourself, after all, what's the rush? I'm sure your body will let you know when it's ready to pushed. Take care! π€
Yours looked great fun, we didn't have costumes etc, but we did have random gold stars on some finish tokens which were exchanged for chocolate!! ππββοΈ
Finally, finally, finally! Iβve got my 100th parkrun, yayyy!
Iβm going to write a post later and Shakes has covered some of it, but she brought me a wonderful balloon that I managed not to bash anyone with on my way round and we had a long sit in the sun afterwards with a nice cup of tea.
Katnap was RDing with the big chick π₯ (see Shakesβ photos) and we had both kittens volunteering again. I made some hot cross buns for the volunteers. I was hoping theyβd look really good with β100β written on them instead of a cross but it didnβt really work out so I wrote on them with icing instead. They seemed to go down ok through π
Hello everybody and a very Happy Easter . UpTheStanley and me have had a very sociable week involving lots of visiting and visits, lots of food and drink and a volunteer stint at the the vax clinic. So I hadnβt been able to run since I completed 4 laps of canoe lake on Monday and succeeded in negative splits and a PB final lap.
I really had to do a 10k run as itβs only 2 weeks until the Vitality London 10000. So what did I do? Only decided to run 5k before parkrun to achieve my 10k today! I used the NRC 10k guided run from the start. I didnβt start running until 8.27 so I knew I wouldnβt be able to get my first 5k in before parkrun start but turned back early and managed 4.76k. UTS then passed me my rabbit ears and I ran parkrun. It was very busy this morning and it took 70 seconds for the tailwalkers to reach the start line. The bunny ears brought a few smiles but certainly didnβt help with my speed. I picked up my finish token and then ran the 240 metres needed to get to 10k.
I wore my π― milestone shirt to celebrate TailChaser βs big 100 . I was really pleased that my finish time was 74 minutes as I put 73 minutes down as my time for London, and that wonβt include some of the delays in the funnel. Bring it on London.
I normally do just a few warm up exercises before parkrun, but I may just try a short gentle run next time because it might just improve my parkrun time (not 5k though!)
Fabulous Dexy! I bet that made you feel good π Thank you for your shirt wearing today. Iβm in a quandary as Iβve just tried to order mine and theyβre out of smalls π’ Iβll keep checking π€Getting very excited about seeing you all in London π₯³π₯³ Slowly ticking off those delayed races and milestones. Loving the ears btw π Happy Easter π£ x
Happy Easter to Kat family. I hope you celebrate your 100 well. Was your 50 shirt a small? If so, just hang around for size to come back. Mineβs medium (size 14) and I wouldnβt want it any smaller.
Yes it is and itβs just right. I was hoping to wear it for Sandieβs 50th but Iβll just have to wear my tourist shirt instead. Ah well, it will stop me buying (yet) another pair of shoes at the same time if I wait!
Yes π¦π¦π¦ are fluttering Cheekychipmunks. Now I donβt want to hear about any injuries in the next 2 weeks amongst our little band of runners. ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈπββ¬ πββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈ.
No way am I taking any risks Dexy! Wouldnβt it be wonderful if the weather is like it is today? Maybe a tad cooler for running purposes, but letβs hope the wind and rain stay away. π€π€π€π€
Hello Parkrunners,It was a beautiful morning at Lowestoft seafront today. Just a couple short of 400 runners with lots of tourists, from far afield as New Zealand! Iβve done more running than is normal for me this month as Iβm doing a charity challenge and it must be paying off as I managed to knock 27 secs off my PB with a finishing time of 35.45. Very nice to see a new number at the front of my time! Happy Easter to you all π₯
Good grief, this must be my fourth go at posting. Letβs see if I can get to the end this time! π€
Ashton Court was my PR of choice today as I was running solo (daughter in London). I toyed with going for a PB somewhere like Marine Parade in Weston (flat as a pancake) or my favourite, Severn Bridge (delightful slope up, then down), but thought I needed to kick myself into some serious hill action and tackle the big one at AC. Iβd run there with a friend on Monday, but we walked twice so we could chat. Only superhumans can run and chat up that killer!! So for me it didnβt count as a proper hill run.
No PBs in sight for me today, probably because I was feeling too good even on the steep bits. It means I wasnβt going all out, so 38:48 Garmin, 39:07 official. It was lovely, and you canβt help but marvel at the feeling of achievement you get at the top! π₯°
Congratulations Cheekychipmunks on that run and time for you at Ashton Court Parkrun, no harm on walking a little on steep hills at parkruns, in fact I've had faster times when walking up a steep part of my home parkrun of Dunfermline than when I ran up it before the 18 months break from Covid, my first 2 parkrun times were 34.16 and 34.17 when running, today my time was 33.17 despite the fact that I walked a bit on the steep part, I hope you have a Happy Easter, don't overdo it with Easter π₯ eggs.
Thanks Al, Happy Easter to you, I canβt promise not to overdo the chocolate tomorrow! π£
I know itβs totally fine to walk on PRs, but I donβt find it helps me as I have a good βfirst gearβ pace and Iβd rather keep going. But yes, Iβm sure Iβd be quicker walking if I did!
Hi damienair , the weather was nice and I didn't oversleep so we did our local Parkrun as planned. I told Mr Yes to run on ahead and he took me at my word. I had NRC 'Another 5k Run' and Radio 6 for company. Normally NRC tells me I've done 4.8 km when I cross the finish line so today I started the app as I ran across the park to catch the briefing. Great plan. At the end it said I'd done 5.17km πI'm normally near the back of the pack but today there seemed to be a huge gap between me and the runner in front, I couldn't even see them. On checking the results they finished three minutes before me.
As often happens there was one woman running at nearly the same pace as me. She was a lot younger than me but a bit bigger. The competitiveness kicked in and every time I heard her footsteps approaching I sped up. A big thank you to her for acting as a pacemaker. (Note to self, it's not a race lol).
No PB today but a good solid run. NRC told me I was going quite unfeasibly fast towards the finish but Garmin was a reality check on that particular number!
As for Mr Yes, he not only got a PB but his age adjusted score was higher than mine for the first time. Well done to him though he told me he was knackered by the end of it.
I think Covid really affected my running too. I got a PB in November, Covid in December and haven't been the same since. I decided to do C25K again to try to build up and I'm finding it really hard. Back to Valentine's Park yesterday. It's my favourite local Parkruns.. gorgeous park, only two laps and reasonably flat.
Annoyance last weekend when we were in The Hague and really wanted to do their one (it's a Z! Zuiderpark). But it was cancelled due to preparations for the Invictus Games. We also flew out of Rotterdam on Sunday and got there in the middle of their marathon
Ah no, sorry you missed out on that parkrun and also getting a Z. Well done on your parkrun this weekend. I hope I can get back to feeling well whilst running again soon. Yes Covid seems to have taken more out of me than I thought too. My symptoms were very mild but after affects are still there. Hope we both get better soon.
Back at macclesfield for the second time for parkrun 38 in an attempt to get my brother out on one as he lives a short walk from south park. Wasn't sure he was gonna be there in time but the start wasn't til 9:05 so we were still around the band stand when he arrived. Was going to make it a slow one as I've been adding a lot of miles this week but bro kept speeding up to pass people and he said he wasn't sure of the route/laps so I had to keep up with him. In the end turned into a pretty perfect progression run with each k faster than the previous. Heart rate was up at 186 by the end though so plenty of recovery now required. Will see if he joins me at lyme park next Saturday but I definitely won't be going fast there. He can work out the route on his own!
Good evening Damien, had a good run again at ParkRun yesterday, it was a beautiful sunny morning and I think we had 193 runners and it certainly seemed busy. 26:26 for me this week, so I was fairly happy , but would like to get under 25mins again (even though it was 25:58) like I did a couple of weeks ago. I'll get there I'm sure, ππββοΈ
Very well done. Great running. Just over 2 years ago I got my parkrun PB of 25:36. Iβd love to get a sub 25 minute parkrun too. But unlike you Iβm a long way off it at the moment. I need to get back to comfortable 30 minute parkrun times first. Youβll definitely do it. If you ever see the pacers volunteering someday stick with the 25 minute pacer and youβll do it.
Ooh thank you, I didn't even know there were pacers. I have someone who I always try and stay just behind as he always beats me by about 20 seconds, but I'll keep a look out for volunteer pacers, that would be so helpful. I started ParkRun last July when it was allowed back and at my first one I did 28 and was thrilled so it's taken a good few months to knock off 2.5 minutes.. Thanks for your weekly posts on here re PR, I love hearing how everyone has got on.π
Me too, I love hearing from everyone too. Itβs like the parkrun club. Yes most parkrun courses do a pacing event once per month. Runners volunteer to wear vests and run at a particular time. The vests will have numbers on the back, 20, 22, 25, 28 etc all the way up to 35 minutes. Due to Covid paced events stopped as the vests needed to be cleaned and sterile. But it is starting to come back bit by bit.
I was back in Wales for the Easter weekend and, only a week after COVID, couldn't think of doing the tough sander run that is the Hafan Pwllheli parkrun. It was blooming hard even when I was at 100%. Not a hope when I'm building back up. If I knew Oldfloss had been going too (she wasn't) I might have made an effort to go, but I'd have probably used her as a pacer to make sure I didn't overdo it. π
So instead I went on a leisurely 4 mile walk round the country lanes with my uncle who was also visiting my parents for Easter.
I did get my 5km run in, but instead on Easter Sunday morning, and kept the effort dialled back a little from what I'd normally do.
