Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Last night all my clothes were laid out, the alarm set and I was all ready to go to my home parkrun today.
But I woke up, arm aching after yesterday’s Covid jab and complete apathy. I heard rain outside and that was it. Sorry folks, I’m having a duvet day. I will collect the tokens from the store for sorting so will gain a volunteer credit, and then go food shopping before watching the America’s Cup if our WiFi is behaving.
Hopefully I’ll feel more energetic tomorrow and do a RunWalkLocal instead
Hope you feel better soon. Last week I had the covid and flu jabs in the same arm which gave the first bad reaction of all my jabs. Hot, swollen arm and a bit lethargic, so I volunteered as I didn’t think I would make it around 5K
Yes a trip to the shop was enough for me! I feel quite hot too now and very tired. Glad I stuck to my guns and had it after my birthday. The flu jab can wait until after GSR.
I got my flu and Covid jag on Thursday Sue, left arm for flu, right arm for Covid, a teeny sore for the rest of the day, if I get those jags on a Friday I won't be at parkrun on Saturday, I have never had a bad reaction after getting those jags, sorry about your hot swollen arm after you got your vaccination, I hope you will feel better very soon.
Morning Damien and pals. I did a solo PR today as Jenny and baby had other plans. As a reward I went over to SB, even though I’d half (less than half) considered going to Eastville. Nah. My favourite bridge won that competition!
It was my first run since my HM last weekend, and I’m relieved to say that my hips have forgiven me, and I did what I’d describe as a solid run. I had to round up to 5k after my watch only recorded 4.91k, thinking of Irishprincess ’s weekly chat this week!
A couple of small runs and some yoga this week, then GSR next weekend! Excitement starting to ramp ….. 🥳
You must RunaroundSue . I just checked and I’ve run PR there 39 times now, not including 6 x 10k races over it. A lottery with the weather, but always fun! Let me know if you decide to come. 😀
I will, apart from a very short (no parkrun) visit ladt year we haven't been to Somerset since before Covid. We have been meeting family at Airbnbs in Birmingham. Maybe next year.
Went to my local parkrun Shroggs Park and this course is my nemesis I never get a great time but today I smashed it and got 29.43 my first time under 30 minutes at this course. Well done everyone who got out to the parkrun
We had a choice today, because we have been camping about halfway between Blythe Links or Whitley Bay. Having walked to both yesterday decided on the latter, mainly because there are more likely breakfast places. In fact, at least 2 offer parkrun discounts.A very nice run but the return lap (twice) was into a biting wind. Luckily the sun was out which helped and it was nowhere near as bad as when we arrived on Wednesday to heavy rain and very strong winds rocking the van.
Today's earworm is Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits, because we went inside the restored Spanish City after breakfast.
I remember staying with a Geordie friend in Whitley Bay one Easter. It was really icy and I was in ski jacket, jumpers, the lot. Then all these coaches pulled up outside the Spanish city and all these northern lasses in mini dresses and fake tan went into the clubs for daytime discos. They are made of strong stuff up there. What have they done to it now?
That sounds about right! It has been restored, the false ceiling removed so that the dome is visible. Now a couple of restaurants and a wedding venue but no problem to go inside and look around. There are a couple of small exhibitions about it. On the outside are a few independent shops and cafés.
Parkrun didn’t happen-it was just too early this morning! Busy week. Instead I did a longer run to the next village with a cheeky fast (for me!) 26 10 minute 5k in the middle, I’ll take that a a happy notparkrun!
Thank you! I’m not sure where it came from!! I’m about to start a marathon training plan and have been hitting the gym-the injury worries have been helpful motivation. Maybe my new and improved glutes have made the difference!! Next week I’ve got a 10k event and this was a lovely confidence boost!
Cold and damp this morning. I got there with barely minutes to spare, then spent most of the first lap chatting with a lady who is a regular at Chadderton. (She's a running addict and was describing her current injuries.)
Eventually she decided she was going to walk a bit, and encouraged me to carry on.
No heroics for me today. I haven't done nearly enough regular runs the last few weeks to risk that. A solid plod with no stops is all I aimed for, and that's exactly what I got.
Official time was 33:01, a little slower than last time. Not surprised at all as the first lap was 1min/km slower than my usual pace, due to me chatting.
Ayr next week (if it's not blowing a hoolie). Must remember that parkruns start at 9.30am North of the border.
After missing out last week, I was looking forward to going back to my home parkrun today following our month away in Ireland, but returned to a letter inviting me for breast screening at 10.15. Could have got there, but didn’t think it would be fair on the radiographer to be faced with a sweaty and rain soaked runner 😂 Next week I will be on my way to Stansted for a quick visit to our place in France, so no parkrun again. Hopefully 26th 🤞🏻
Although my ankle is much improved, a sore arm after Thursday's Covid/flu jabs meant that I didn't push it at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning. Although rain was threatening, it didn't materialise, and I was quite happy with an outcome of 32.14. Might actually be fully fit by next Saturday? 🤞
Good run for you today JP, not pushing it but still got a time of 32:14 isn't bad considering like me I got those two jabs also on Thursday, my arms are OK after those jabs, good luck for a week tomorrow when you run The Great South Run ✔️✔️🏃🏾
Thanks Al - unfortunately I have had to pull out of the GSR. I injured my ankle a little while ago and despite rest and exercises it became clear that I would only make it worse by trying to run 10 miles - still, there's always next year!
Sorry about you not being able to run the Great South Run next Sunday JP, because of your injured ankle, always next year as you say, Dexy5 has asked me to virtually run it next Sunday which I hope to do, I havn't ran ten miles since last October I'll take it slow and steady.
Today I went to Roding Valley parkrun just outside of London, in Essex. I went there because my run club was doing a cross country race nearby and I went over to cheer them on afterwards.
It was a nice run, mostly on grass with a lovely team of marshals and volunteers.
I went to Banstead Woods parkrun in Surrey today to help a parkrunner friend celebrate his 500th! A hilly trail course which was a little bit muddy. The sun almost appeared a few times and lots of photos were taken. Today was my second visit here and got a better time this time of 33:22
Home parkrun today. Had a stressful week at work that’s made my rumbling cold worse but one thing that helps stress is running so I had to really. Tbh volunteering would have been worse as it was cold and wet so I really wouldn’t have wanted to stand in it. Big kudos to those who volunteered today. The cold and wet certainly didn’t deter our hardy parkrunners either as we had 380 turn up today.
So I blew off the cobwebs with a sub 30 minutes. It was going to be a plod but I couldn’t do that either. I have no self control, I just go at whatever speed my legs decide they want to go when I do parkrun.
Post parkrun breakfast was via Boots for a bottle of Buttercup Syrup and a packet of cough sweets. Let’s hope next week won’t be as stressful.
Yesterday I traveled to Borrisokane Town parkrun. It was a 3-lap course in a lovely town park. Just 21 runners and walkers so it was a lovely quiet parkrun. I was happy, I had not run much over the last two weeks and needed a quick little walk break on the 4th kilometre but I still managed to finish in a time of 26:52 and finished in 8th position. So very happy with that. That was my 70th different parkrun course in Ireland.
Very well done to you for volunteering. I’m on a mission this year to do 50 parkruns. I did number 40 on Saturday. So I’m on the countdown for 50 this year. In the new year I am looking forward to volunteering again.
I'm on the injury couch atm but am loving volunteering. Once I'm back and running, I'd like to complete an alphabet next year. But I think I will try to volunteer for the setup for most and then run.
