Very briefly....really poorly through summer, spent a couple of separate weeks in hospital and doubted I'd ever run again. Got the treatment, got home, got more treatment didn't get any energy back, tried walking but really too breathless to run.
Then one day a nurse phoned to say I was very anaemic and she'd booked me in for an infusion of iron.... Twice!
I didn't think it had done me much good but it takes time and after about a week I realised I wasn't puffing so much!
Finally had the energy to go and get my thyroid function blood test done.....uh oh, those levels are way out too and an increase in levothyroxine is indicated!
I've been thinking of running a lot lately and today was the day, sunshine, blue skies, not too cold.
I programmed C25k week 1 run 1 into my watch as I don't want to download the app again. And off I went....5 minutes warm up walk, feeling good and almost at the beach, 1 minute run and 90 seconds recovery walk.....8 times, after 4 I turned round and headed home, not before pausing for photos though. Everyone I passed said good morning π and as I was finishing the 5 minutes cool down walk I arrived at my front door. Stop the watch and done .
I first did this run in march 2019, I was a little slower then and my heartrate went a lot higher.. today I covered 2.48k in the 30 minutes and am very happy.
To put it in perspective 10 weeks ago I went to the hospital for a blood test, my daughter drove me there and pushed me round the hospital in a wheelchair, this week I went to the hospital for a blood test, I walked there and home again after.
Run happy VRB's

So good to hear that you are on the road to recovery and back with the C25K programme again. Great news! Hang in there and hope it goes well for you in the coming weeks.
Good news Sue, let's hope they're not too many hospital visits for you and you can gradually get back to longer walking and some gentle running as well.β
I can't do running to the beat either. Though I once tried, during a HU virtual event, to this: youtube.com/watch?v=mPQPdYt... π€£π€£π€£ About 500m downhill on a road, nearly killed me!
Ha ha ha, we shared a set of ear buds for C25K and it was always Coldplay, once we graduated I got a second set and listened to whatever I wanted, one day Willow chose a rock playlist, he ran so fast, ended up exhausted and went back to Coldplay π
Iβm so pleased for you Sue, both on your improved health status and restarting C25K again! After what youβve been through this year you must be feeling so happy! Go you!
Such great news that your health issues are being sorted and that you feel well enough to try running againπ The only way is up and Iβm sure youβll be back to your old self soon xx
What a wonderful post Sue! Thatβs great progress. Looking forward to following your latest Cto5k journey. Iβm taking some beginners out. Did W5R1 on Thursday. Shall incorporate W5R2 into parkrun this morning. Xx
That's so wonderful Sue - you have made my morning and as usual, your positive outlook however hard life comes at you is truly inspiring. Keep smiling and keep (gently) trotting. Much love β€ π€πββοΈπββοΈπ.
So good to hear this! I did my first c25k around the same time and am trying to repeat it too. Just been derailed for a couple of weeks but I'll be back. I'll take my inspiration from you!!
So pleased to read this! Wonderful news! After my longest break from running several months that first run felt so good, like a little child with a lovely present. I hope you the day after too. All the very best as you continue your return πππ»ββοΈ
I've also got hypothyroidism. Just remembered it's time to book my own six-monthly blood test. It's been steady at 100Β΅g L-thyroxine for about six years now, so I don't expect any change.
Half the challenge with overcoming a problem is knowing what the problem is in the first place.
I only found out I was hypo (about 8 years ago) was because I greyed out in a work meeting, leading to my colleagues calling for an ambulance. Many tests later and it was discovered that the natural feedback loop between the pituitary and thyroid was making my thyroid hormone levels look like a roller coaster ride.
Hopefully you're stable now and can get back to doing what you want.
Thank you nowster.....my issue was the IBD but that uncovered the severe anaemia and low thyroid function, I was on 100mcg for years and they reduced it a couple of years ago, I was cross because however I worked at it running was getting slower and harder it never occured to me it was my thyroid, but I have more energy and hopefully I'll be able to build some fitness back
I missed this post. However Iβm so so pleased that your health is starting to improve and that your managing to get back out there πββοΈπ₯°xx
I too missed this post. Itβs great to hear you are slowly improving and getting back into running again. Take your time enjoy and soon youβll be back to your previous distances. π€π€
Great to see you back! I hadn't run for 18 months, started C25k again in July and I'm just now working on week 9 π taking it very slowly but it seems to be working
