I am doing the runs of this plan a bit out of order, and I do like the NRC plans for just that reason.
So as I had a bit more time this morning, it meant I’d go for the long run of the week. “Long” should be in quotes, as I’m so slow that most of my 4-5k-ish distances take me 45 to 60 minutes. I know, I’m slow. But that means 35 minute runs are short-ish distances for me.
Well, at least when I’m running 5ks regularly, which I’m not at the moment … so … 35min is a medium-ish run for me at present….
… huh … and I’m waffling … which must be Coach Bennett rubbing off on me. It was so good to run with him again!
Today’s run was RUNNING FOR MORE: JOY . And I only vaguely remember running this one. So it was great to listen to him and Daniel the engineer. They do have a way with words, don’t they! (Although it sounds like they mostly described running on tracks rather than trails, considering the examples of what brings them joy in running, e.g. freshly mowed grass?)
There was also a joyful glitch, though. My NRC app stopped at midpoint, when I was walking backwards for a few minutes. And as I was also listening to music, I didn’t notice until I got back home. And suddenly, looking at my app, Coach Bennett jumped into action again, telling me I had still 13 minutes to go, whilst the time in the app told me I’d already finished.
So I let the Coach joyfully ramble on whilst I did my joyful post-run stretch routine outside, which was all well and perfectly timed for us both to finish together.
Great run. I breathed through my nose the whole time, also focussing on breath with the music with 1..2..3.. IN… and 1.. out … and 1..2..3.. IN… and 1 .. out. It was really medidative and it’s great to feel being able to breath in through my nose again whilst running. Just earlier the year, when I was returning from illness, I hadn’t been able to do this anymore. So it’s a good indicator for my fitness having improved.
Love the Run Beyond Plan, and its meaningful flavour texts. It really does add to the joy of running, if that is even possible. (Thank you Coach Bennett and NRC)
Happy Running, Everyone!
